SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 12

A RESOLUTION
To commend William Harold "Billy" Nungesser, Plaquemines Parish President, for his
exemplary leadership during the BP oil disaster.
WHEREAS, the magnitude of the BP oil spill in the Gulf region far outstripped the
dimensions of the Exxon-Valdez spill, necessitating the closure of vast stretches of
Louisiana's wetlands, seafood hatcheries, and wildlife habitats; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Nungesser recognized the BP oil disaster was destroying
Louisiana's marshes and negatively impacting the lives of our fishermen, oil field workers,
and the entire economy of our state; and
WHEREAS, his leadership and representation of the residents of Plaqeumines Parish
never takes a break; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Nungesser became the voice and face of the numerous residents
impacted by the BP oil disaster; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Nungesser showed courage and steadfast leadership as he worked
with state and local officials across the Gulf Coast in demanding that BP and the federal
government fulfill their obligations of restoring our coast and the livelihood of our residents.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend William Harold "Billy" Nungesser, Plaquemines Parish President, for
his exemplary leadership during the BP oil disaster.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
William Harold "Billy" Nungesser, Plaquemines Parish President.
