Requests the Capital Area Groundwater Conservation District to study saltwater intrusion into the groundwater resources in the capital area, and to consider the effects of industrial uses on such saltwater intrusion and groundwater resources. A RESOLUTION1 To urge and request the Capital Area Groundwater Conservation District to study saltwater2 intrusion into the groundwater resources in the capital area, and to consider the3 effects of industrial uses on such saltwater intrusion and groundwater resources.4 WHEREAS, the Capital Area Groundwater Conservation District ("district") was5 created to provide for the efficient administration, conservation, orderly development and6 supplementation of groundwater resources in the parishes of East Baton Rouge, East7 Feliciana, Pointe Coupee, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana; and8 WHEREAS, because of large withdrawals from the aquifer system in the capital area,9 historical patterns of groundwater flow have been altered over the years; and10 WHEREAS, the district, in coordination with various public and private groups, has11 conducted numerous studies and modeling on the issues affecting the groundwater resources12 in the capital area; and13 WHEREAS, recently, Hays Town, a hydrology student, made a presentation to the14 East Baton Rouge Parish Metropolitan Council about the effects of saltwater intrusion on15 the freshwater supply of East Baton Rouge Parish; and16 WHEREAS, Mr. Town indicated that the saltwater intrusion is being exacerbated by17 industries which pull excessive amounts of groundwater from the aquifer system in the18 SR NO. 141 SLS 11RS-3001 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 capital area.1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana2 does hereby request the Capital Area Groundwater Conservation District to study saltwater3 intrusion into the groundwater resources in the capital area, to consider the effects of4 industrial uses on such saltwater intrusion and groundwater resources, and to report its5 findings and recommendations to the Senate Committee on Natural Resources by February6 1, 2012.7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the8 director of the Capital Area Groundwater Conservation District.9 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by J.
