Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 142 BY SENATORS ALARIO AND WALSWORTH A RESOLUTION To commend the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation and the foundation's Executive Director, Dr. Ken Ward, for dedicated service to members of the Senate and the citizens of Louisiana. WHEREAS, Louisiana, over the years has been fortunate to have many groups and organizations seeking to make Louisiana a better place in which to live; and WHEREAS, one such organization is the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation, organized in September of 1942, to help people of all faiths and no faith to work together to make a better Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the current Executive Director of the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation, Dr. Ken Ward, has served the foundation, since January 1,1976, and diligently works to keep well informed and available to address issues of ethics and morality; and WHEREAS, both the foundation and Dr. Ward have over the years been regarded by many members of the Louisiana Legislature as a role model for other organizations who seek to positively impact the legislature in the areas of moral and social concerns; and WHEREAS, past resolutions of the Senate as well as previous governors have described the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation as an institution within the institution of the legislature; and WHEREAS, Dr. Ward received his doctor of philosophy from Louisiana State University and completed his dissertation in the area of legislative ethics, is recognized in Louisiana as one of the foremost ethicist in the state; and currently serves the House of Representatives as legislative ethicist and coordinator of chaplain services; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation has not and does not represent any particular religious denomination or organization, but has proven to be a reliable and trusted resource for members of the legislature, relative to the declared positions of religious groups; and SR NO. 142 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, for over three and one half decades, Dr. Ward has been and continues to be called upon by members of the legislature to provide information and analysis on complex and controversial ethical and moral issues that may otherwise have gone unresolved but for the experience and skills gained by Dr. Ward through his preparation, experiences and genuine respect for the legislative process. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Louisiana Legislature does hereby commend and express appreciation to the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation and to the foundation's Executive Director, Dr. Ken Ward, for being available to the members of the Senate and for their dedicated service rendered to the citizens of Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the Louisiana Senate pledge to continue working with the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation in keeping the commitment made over sixty-five years ago, by the founders of the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation, to help all people work together to make a better Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation and their Executive Director, Dr. Ken Ward. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
