Posthumously commends Kenneth Gore on his considerable accomplishments in the logging industry, and his legacy of commitment to family, work, and high personal standards. A RESOLUTION1 To recognize the numerous accomplishments of Kenneth Gore in the logging industry and2 to celebrate his legacy of commitment to family, work, and high personal standards.3 WHEREAS, Kenneth Gore was born on February 7, 1947, to a family of four4 generations of loggers; and5 WHEREAS, Kenneth graduated with a degree in building construction from6 Northeast Louisiana University, now University of Louisiana at Monroe; and7 WHEREAS, after working several years for a general contractor in Dallas, Texas,8 Kenneth returned to Louisiana to follow in the logging footsteps of his Great-Uncle John,9 his Uncle Bud, and cousin H.G. Gore, from whom Kenneth purchased the business in 197610 and began operation as "Kenneth H. Gore Logging Company, Inc."; and11 WHEREAS, Kenneth Gore married his wife, Diane, and fathered two daughters,12 Anna Gore and Paige Gore; and13 WHEREAS, the logging company was certainly a family business, with Diane14 working a computer, tracking data, including the volume of timber cut and the operating15 costs; and16 WHEREAS, Kenneth and Diane instilled in their daughters a respect for hard work,17 high personal standards, and a love of family that continues as they live their adult lives; and18 SR NO. 150 SLS 11RS-3080 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Kenneth Gore trained a new generation in the business of logging by1 bringing his nephew, Neil Riser, to work in the timber business; and2 WHEREAS, Kenneth's impact on his nephew was considerable, Senator Riser stating3 "Kenneth was a very good logger who was very serious about the logging business."; and4 WHEREAS, Senator Riser also remembers Kenneth saying, "Let me make it very5 clear to you guys (loggers on the crew), you don't need to wear a watch on my jobs and6 worry about what time it is. There are only two times a day that you need to be concerned7 about the time, one is daylight and you better be on the job working then. The other time8 is when it gets dark, that's when you can start thinking about quitting time."; and9 WHEREAS, following in his Uncle Kenneth's footsteps, Neil Riser worked his way10 through college at ULM on the logging crew for his uncle; and11 WHEREAS, Senator Riser once stated, "If I had followed the career path that I12 enjoyed the most, I would still be a logging contractor."; and13 WHEREAS, in 1989, Kenneth Gore was named "Logger of the Year" and in 199714 the computer laboratory in the Department of Construction at the University of Louisiana15 at Monroe was named in his honor; and16 WHEREAS, Kenneth Gore's life ended prematurely, when he was killed in a logging17 accident on February 20, 1989.18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana19 does hereby commend the legacy of hard work and personal responsibility that Kenneth20 Gore epitomized in the way he lived his life and the way he operated his logging company.21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Diane22 Gore and her daughters, Anna and Paige.23 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Mary Dozier O'Brien.
