Expresses condolences upon the death of Kimberly McElveen Sledge, a fraud investigator with the Louisiana Department of Insurance, who was killed in the line of duty on June 7, 2011. A RESOLUTION1 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the2 death of Kimberly "Kim" McElveen Sledge.3 WHEREAS, it is with great sadness that the citizens of the state of Louisiana have4 learned of the untimely death of Kimberly McElveen Sledge, a resident of Denham Springs,5 at the age of forty-four; and6 WHEREAS, Kim was born on September 15, 1966, and was shot and killed on June7 7, 2011, while performing her duties as a fraud investigator with the Louisiana Department8 of Insurance; and9 WHEREAS, she was an eleven year employee with the department, having begun10 her career in October 2000 in the health division and, subsequently, with the fraud section;11 and12 WHEREAS, Kim was slain while attempting to collect case information from an13 insurance agent in Ville Platte during the course of an investigation; and14 WHEREAS, she is preceded in death by her father, John E. McElveen, and is15 survived by her husband, John Sledge; her daughter, Brittany Warren; her mother, Carol16 Caston McElveen; her sisters, Rhonda Jordan and Melanie Farrow; her stepdaughter, Averie17 Sledge; and her stepson, Jacob Sledge; and18 SR NO. 151 SLS 11RS-3012 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, she will be remembered by her friends, family, and colleagues as a1 country girl who loved the outdoors, working in her yard, and caring for her animals; and2 WHEREAS, the citizens of Louisiana lost a unique individual who left an indelible3 mark upon the lives she touched, and her passing has created a genuine sense of profound4 sorrow; and5 WHEREAS, the memory of Kimberly McElveen Sledge will remain eternal in the6 hearts and minds of her family and friends, and shall live forever in the minds and hearts of7 all who knew and loved her.8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana9 does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Kimberly McElveen10 Sledge, does hereby recognize the ultimate sacrifice she made for the state of Louisiana, and11 does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that she will forever bring12 to her family, friends, colleagues, community, and the state of Louisiana.13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the14 family of Kimberly McElveen Sledge.15 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Nancy Vicknair.
