Commends Therese Segura and Freddie DeCourt on their service to the New Iberia City Council. A RESOLUTION1 To commend Therese Segura and Freddie DeCourt on their service to the New Iberia City2 Council.3 WHEREAS, the town of New Iberia dates back to the Spring of 1779, when a group4 of five hundred Malaguenian colonists and Bernardo de Galvez traveled up Bayou Teche and5 settled around Spanish Lake; and6 WHEREAS, the town was incorporated in 1839 as Iberia, and in 1947, the legislature7 renamed the town New Iberia; and8 WHEREAS, as members of the New Iberia City Council, Therese Segura and9 Freddie DeCourt have contributed countless hours toward the preservation of New Iberia's10 culture and unique heritage; and11 WHEREAS, their tireless efforts on behalf of New Iberia and Iberia Parish have12 ensured continued economic growth in the area; and13 WHEREAS, their leadership on behalf of the area has led to an increase in tourism14 and their service toward this end continues to elevate Iberia Parish to being one of the15 premier tourist destinations in Louisiana; and16 WHEREAS, the citizens of New Iberia and Iberia Parish will forever be grateful for17 the time, energy, and commitment Therese Segura and Freddie DeCourt have tirelessly18 SR NO. 159 SLS 11RS-3142 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 contributed to the community.1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana2 does hereby commend Therese Segura and Freddie DeCourt for their years of distinguished3 service on the New Iberia City Council and their leadership and dedication to making their4 community and state a better place to live.5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to6 Therese Segura and Freddie DeCourt.7 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Nancy Vicknair.
