SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 20
BY SENATOR MOUNT 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Louisiana's principals for their continued service to the
children of Louisiana and recognizes October 2011 as National Principals Month in
Louisiana.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Louisiana's principals for their continued service to the children of Louisiana2
and to recognize October 2011 as National Principals Month in Louisiana.3
WHEREAS, Louisiana's future depends on a well-educated society, and schools4
produce the next generation of citizens who contribute to healthy and prosperous5
communities; and6
WHEREAS, principals are dedicated to their students' ongoing academic and7
intellectual development, and they work to provide a positive support system to empower8
their students and to give them the tools they need to succeed; and9
WHEREAS, principals are responsible for providing instructional leadership and10
professional management in our schools; and11
WHEREAS, this leadership is second only to classroom instruction among all12
school-related factors that contribute to what students learn at school, according to research13
conducted by the Wallace Foundation; and14
WHEREAS, principals are responsible for the safety of their students and staff and15
the security of the school, and they maintain school discipline and develop mission16
statements, and set performance goals and objectives; and17
WHEREAS, principals set the academic tone for their schools and work18 SR NO. 20

collaboratively with teachers to develop and maintain high curriculum standards, develop1
mission statements, and set performance goals and objectives; and2
WHEREAS, principals lead the way in making schools accountable to students,3
parents, the community, and other stakeholders, as well as being responsible for fostering4
a dynamic partnership between the community and the school in order to create a positive5
learning environment for students.6
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana7
does hereby commend Louisiana's principals for their continued service to the children of8
Louisiana and recognizes October 2011 as National Principals Month in Louisiana. 9
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the10
president of the Louisiana Association of Principals.11
