Broussard for nearly 30 years of dedicated service on the SLEMCO Board of Directors. A RESOLUTION1 To commend Dennis J. Broussard for nearly thirty years of dedicated service on the Board2 of Directors of Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corporation (SLEMCO).3 WHEREAS, Dennis J. Broussard of Kaplan recently retired from the SLEMCO4 Board of Directors, after serving for nearly thirty years as one of two Vermilion Parish5 representatives on the board; and 6 WHEREAS, while on the SLEMCO Board of Directors, Dennis Broussard served7 in several important capacities including Board secretary from September 2008 to the last8 day of January 2011; chairman of Wage and Salary Committee; and member of the9 Purchasing Committee; and 10 WHEREAS, he was a charter member of the Board of Directors of the SLEMCO11 Electric Foundation which has counted among its members civic leaders from all across12 Acadiana and which has used funds donated by seventy percent of the SLEMCO members13 every month to help thousands of needy families and individuals with needed prescription14 medications, eyeglasses, hearing aides, clothing, and other items; and15 WHEREAS, Dennis Broussard served in the United States Army in World War II16 and witnessed the now famous raising of the American flag at Iwo Jima; and17 WHEREAS, he got his Master's Degree in Education from Peabody Teachers'18 SR NO. 21 SLS 11RS-648 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 College in Nashville, Tennessee; and1 WHEREAS, he was a school teacher and, for twenty-two years, elementary school2 principal in Sulphur; his wife, the former Helen LeBeouf of Abbeville, was a first grade3 public school teacher; and they live near Kaplan, in the very house where he was born and4 raised; and5 WHEREAS, Dennis and Helen Broussard have been married for nearly sixty-four6 years; have three daughters, Beverly Conner Jr., Diane Marie Venable, and Annette Savoy;7 a son, James Paul Broussard; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and are8 members of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kaplan; and9 WHEREAS, Dennis J. Broussard is a member of the Knights of Columbus, the10 American Legion, the Louisiana Educators Association, and the National Educators11 Association.12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana13 does hereby recognize and commend Dennis J. Broussard for his many years of dedicated14 service as a member of the Board of Directors of Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership15 Corporation, on the occasion of his retirement.16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to17 Dennis J.
