Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 21 BY SENATOR PERRY A RESOLUTION To commend Dennis J. Broussard for nearly thirty years of dedicated service on the Board of Directors of Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corporation (SLEMCO). WHEREAS, Dennis J. Broussard of Kaplan recently retired from the SLEMCO Board of Directors, after serving for nearly thirty years as one of two Vermilion Parish representatives on the board; and WHEREAS, while on the SLEMCO Board of Directors, Dennis Broussard served in several important capacities including Board secretary from September 2008 to the last day of January 2011; chairman of Wage and Salary Committee; and member of the Purchasing Committee; and WHEREAS, he was a charter member of the Board of Directors of the SLEMCO Electric Foundation which has counted among its members civic leaders from all across Acadiana and which has used funds donated by seventy percent of the SLEMCO members every month to help thousands of needy families and individuals with needed prescription medications, eyeglasses, hearing aides, clothing, and other items; and WHEREAS, Dennis Broussard served in the United States Army in World War II and witnessed the now famous raising of the American flag at Iwo Jima; and WHEREAS, he got his Master's Degree in Education from Peabody Teachers' College in Nashville, Tennessee; and WHEREAS, he was a school teacher and, for twenty-two years, elementary school principal in Sulphur; his wife, the former Helen LeBeouf of Abbeville, was a first grade public school teacher; and they live near Kaplan, in the very house where he was born and raised; and WHEREAS, Dennis and Helen Broussard have been married for nearly sixty-four years; have three daughters, Beverly Conner Jr., Diane Marie Venable, and Annette Savoy; a son, James Paul Broussard; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and are members of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kaplan; and SR NO. 21 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Dennis J. Broussard is a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, the Louisiana Educators Association, and the National Educators Association. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize and commend Dennis J. Broussard for his many years of dedicated service as a member of the Board of Directors of Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corporation, on the occasion of his retirement. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Dennis J. Broussard. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
