SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 29
BY SENATOR BROOME 
CONDOLENCES.  Expresses condolences upon the death of Uyai Idara Imaabasi.
A RESOLUTION1
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the2
death of Uyai Idara Imaabasi.3
WHEREAS, it is with great sadness that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana4
has learned of the untimely passing of Uyai Idara Imaabasi on February 28, 2011, at the5
young age of twenty-seven; and 6
WHEREAS, she was born on July 29, 1983, to the union of Edward J. Walker, Jr.,7
and Scarlett T. Walker, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and 8
WHEREAS, Uyai Idara Imaabasi, whose name means beauty, joy, love of God, was9
reared in a Christian God fearing family and developed a personal relationship, with God,10
from an early age, being baptized at the age of nine at the Greater King David Baptist11
Church by Pastor John Montgomery III; and 12
WHEREAS, she later on joined Faith City International Ministries where she served13
as an usher and Liturgical Dancer; and 14
WHEREAS, Uyai graduated from Baton Rouge Magnet High School, earned an15
Associates of Science in Business Administration from Baton Rouge Community College,16
furthered her education by attending Louisiana State University, where she received her17
Bachelor of Arts degree with Emphasis on African American Studies; and18 SR NO. 29

WHEREAS, she was the first individual in Louisiana to be granted a license in1
Alternative Hair Design by the Louisiana Board of Cosmetology; and 2
WHEREAS, Uyai, a loctician, established and operated her business, Twist My3
Locs, for natural hair care at Tapers Barber Shop, Inc., in Baton Rouge over the last five4
years; and5
WHEREAS, she had begun studies to become an trichologist and sisterloctician; and6
WHEREAS, she was preceded in death by her grandfather Robert S. Taylor, Sr.;7
great-grandmothers Estella Johnson and Ruth Romero; aunts, Pamela and Maxine; Uncle8
George; and great grandparents Gertrude and George Hart, Eugene and Mary Spears; Great9
aunts & uncles: Beatrice & Alvin Jordan, Tommy Romero; and10
WHEREAS, Uyai Idara Imaabasi leaves to cherish her memory; her parents, a11
brother, Edward J. Walker III; a son , KiKtu Hewa Roberto Diallo along with his father,12
KiKala Bertell Diallo, his paternal grandmother, Celestine Diallo, and his paternal13
grandfather, Yoro Diallo, and paternal great-grandparent, Edward and Channie J. Walker Sr.;14
and paternal aunt and uncles, Samuel and Tracey Stewart and Gary and Trudy Brazzel; a15
grandmother, Mrs. Daisy E. Taylor; maternal aunts and uncles, Marigold (Hansel Carter),16
Daisy Taylor, Eva Forest, Robert (Sybil Taylor), and Tazania Taylor; cousins, Eerin, Milton,17
Jeff, Nicholas, Jasmine, Heather, Fallon, Jade, John, Roland, Nandi, Caleb, Anaya, Toyin,18
Riana, Demetrius, Deonte', Devon, and Gili; mentors and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Baye and19
Nomzamo Iyanu and family; a life long friend, Andrea Leary Fernandez; and other relatives20
and friends.21
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana22
does hereby express sincere condolences upon the death of Uyai Idara Imaabasi.23
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the24
parents of Uyai Idara Imaabasi.25
