Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 29 BY SENATOR BROOME A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Uyai Idara Imaabasi. WHEREAS, it is with great sadness that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana has learned of the untimely passing of Uyai Idara Imaabasi on February 28, 2011, at the young age of twenty-seven; and WHEREAS, she was born on July 29, 1983, to the union of Edward J. Walker, Jr., and Scarlett T. Walker, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Uyai Idara Imaabasi, whose name means beauty, joy, love of God, was reared in a Christian God fearing family and developed a personal relationship with God from an early age, being baptized at the age of nine at the Greater King David Baptist Church by Pastor John Montgomery III; and WHEREAS, she later joined Faith City International Ministries where she served as an usher and Liturgical Dancer; and WHEREAS, Uyai graduated from Baton Rouge Magnet High School, earned an Associates of Science in Business Administration from Baton Rouge Community College, furthered her education by attending Louisiana State University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree with emphasis on African American Studies; and WHEREAS, she was the first individual in Louisiana to be granted a license in Alternative Hair Design by the Louisiana Board of Cosmetology; and WHEREAS, Uyai, a loctician, established and operated her business, Twist My Locs, for natural hair care at Tapers Barber Shop, Inc., in Baton Rouge over the last five years; and WHEREAS, she had begun studies to become a trichologist and sisterloctician; and SR NO. 29 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, she was preceded in death by her grandfather Robert S. Taylor, Sr.; great-grandmothers Estella Johnson and Ruth Romero; aunts, Pamela and Maxine; Uncle George; and great grandparents Gertrude and George Hart, Eugene and Mary Spears; Great aunts & uncles: Beatrice & Alvin Jordan, Tommy Romero; and WHEREAS, Uyai Idara Imaabasi leaves to cherish her memory; her parents, a brother, Edward J. Walker III; a son , KiKtu Hewa Roberto Diallo along with his father, KiKala Bertell Diallo, his paternal grandmother, Celestine Diallo, and his paternal grandfather, Yoro Diallo, and paternal great-grandparents, Edward and Channie J. Walker Sr.; and paternal aunts and uncles, Samuel and Tracey Stewart and Gary and Trudy Brazzel; a grandmother, Mrs. Daisy E. Taylor; maternal aunts and uncles, Marigold (Hansel Carter), Daisy Taylor, Eva Forest, Robert (Sybil Taylor), and Tazania Taylor; cousins, Eerin, Milton, Jeff, Nicholas, Jasmine, Heather, Fallon, Jade, John, Roland, Nandi, Caleb, Anaya, Toyin, Riana, Demetrius, Deonte', Devon, and Gili; mentors and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Baye and Nomzamo Iyanu and family; a life long friend, Andrea Leary Fernandez; and other relatives and friends. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere condolences upon the death of Uyai Idara Imaabasi. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the parents of Uyai Idara Imaabasi. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
