SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 3
BY SENATOR DONAHUE 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends St. Paul's School upon celebrating its 100
th
 year
anniversary.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend St. Paul's School in Covington, Louisiana, upon celebrating its one hundredth2
year anniversary.3
WHEREAS, in 1509, founder John Colet established a new school to be an inclusive4
meritocracy in which boys from all nations and countries would be educated, without regard5
to means or race; and6
WHEREAS, St. Paul's School is a unique blend of modern and traditional values,7
diversity of background and continuity of care, and holds a high tolerance and capacity for8
creative debate; and9
WHEREAS, the pupils of St. Paul graduate as young men of principle, spirit and10
imagination; and11
WHEREAS, Acting High Master, Dick Jaine, has several aims for the school12
including taking a leading role in education, retaining the best of traditional academic13
education, and seeking to use the school's independence and status to innovate and to lead;14
and15
WHEREAS, to have a needs-blind entry, St. Paul aspires to become the first leading16
academic school in the country to adopt this approach, welcoming gifted young pupils17
regardless of economic background; and18 SR NO. 3

WHEREAS, this Catholic school for boys has taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ to1
students in a Lasallian, Christ-centered environment of caring discipline, while fostering2
high academic standards and encouraging community involvement for one hundred years;3
and4
WHEREAS, the tradition of a Lasallian education is rooted in five core principles5
including faith in the presence of God, concern for the poor and social injustice, quality6
education, inclusive community, and respect for all persons; and7
WHEREAS, these principles are fostered in every Lasallian institution worldwide;8
and9
WHEREAS, the Christian Brothers of St. Paul's School are assisted by more than10
seventy-three thousand law colleagues, and teach over nine hundred thousand students in11
eighty countries; and12
WHEREAS, each St. Paul's School student comes to prayer in the same way,13
reciting, let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God, and closes prayer with the14
call and response, St. John Baptist de la Salle, pray for us. Live Jesus in our hearts, forever;15
and16
WHEREAS, St. Paul's School strives to provide inspirational teaching, to continue17
providing outstanding pastoral care, to commit to community service, and to construct an18
inspirational physical environment; and19
WHEREAS, central to the aims and ethos of St. Paul's School is the realization that20
what a young man does in and outside the classroom can inform, influence, and change his21
life.22
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana23
does hereby commend St. Paul's School in Covington, Louisiana, upon celebrating its one24
hundredth year anniversary.25
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Dick26
