Commends Scott Rogers for exemplary and outstanding service to the Baton Rouge area community. A RESOLUTION1 To commend Scott Rogers for outstanding and exemplary service to the Baton Rouge area2 community.3 WHEREAS, a successful career as a marketing and production consultant worldwide4 brought Scott Rogers to the United States throughout the 1990s and he decided to immigrate5 to Louisiana from England in 2000 with his daughter, Kimmie, becoming American citizens6 in 2009; and7 WHEREAS, Scott's outstanding abilities as a motivator and bridge builder have been8 put to good use over the last decade through hundreds of charitable events, thousands of9 personal hours given, and hundreds of thousands of dollars raised due to his actions in the10 state; and11 WHEREAS, Scott Rogers is a formidable advocate for the state and civic and12 charitable groups that have sought his assistance; and13 WHEREAS, in 2003, he developed and financed the creation of the award-winning14 Around Town Show - itself a vehicle for positive news across the capital region; and15 WHEREAS, Around Town has produced over 800 editions bringing free exposure16 to nearly five thousand different civic and charitable events, groups, and endeavors and has17 become known for its support of critical local volunteer groups and provides free airtime as18 SR NO. 31 SLS 11RS-849 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 3 well as coverage to promote their causes; and1 WHEREAS, Scott Rogers has served as judge for Capital Area United Way2 Jambalaya Cookoff; Z-Fest (Zachary Idol); LSU Art Show; and Baker Buffalo Wing3 Competition; and4 WHEREAS, he has been a member of, involved with, or assisted the Board of5 Directors for the Pride Fire Department; Kiwanis International (held "Regional Motivator"6 office for three years) and spoke to over thirty regional civic groups over three states; Circle7 K & Key Club (Youth Division of Kiwanis International); The Jaycees; Dreams Come True8 - Honorary Chairperson for two years; Arthritis Foundation; The Chamber of Commerce of9 Greater Baton Rouge; Governor's Abstinence Program; Baton Rouge Family Law Division;10 United Blood Services; Aneurysm Outreach, Inc.; Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council11 (CACRC); Golden Magnolia Awards; Keep Baton Rouge Beautiful; Links to Literacy;12 Northdale Magnet High School; Louisiana Council for Tobacco Free Living; Sweet13 Adelines; River Parishes College; Polaris Awards; East Baton Rouge Medical Society;14 Louisiana State Bar Association; Cat Haven Annual Banquet; Baker Police Department (dog15 runs and rest rooms and new bulletproof vests); Baton Rouge Parents Magazine; Cenikor;16 Friendship Force of Baton Rouge; Protect Our Dogs; McMain's Children Developmental17 Association; National Black Home Educators Resource Association; Louisiana State18 Troopers Association; Cystic Fibrosis (Golden Rose Awards and Celebrity Waiters); Festival19 of Lights; and Office of Community Services (state adoption/fostering), as well as serving20 as guest chef at Southside Gardens; and21 WHEREAS, he has emceed for Seize the Day, Epilepsy Foundation event for five22 years; LSU Mike the Tiger new housing fundraiser; Virginia collage grand opening;23 Friendship force Baton Rouge; House of Blues New Orleans; Louisiana Fallen Firefighter's24 Memorial event for five years; USS Kidd Memorial Day Service; Meanwhile, Back at Café25 Du Monde; Lyceum, Back at Café Du Monde; Casas for CASA; Louisiana Tea Party Lt.26 Governor's Debate; Baker Buffalo Festival; Fall Couture Bridal Show; Lagniappe Women's27 Club; Better Business Bureau "Ethics in Business Award" Dinner for two years;28 ARC Luncheon and Style Show; and Epilepsy Walk; and29 WHEREAS, Scott Rogers has been a speaker at CEO Women's Group; Metropolitan30 SR NO. 31 SLS 11RS-849 ORIGINAL Page 3 of 3 Community Church; Unity Church of Baton Rouge; and American Business Women's1 Luncheon; and2 WHEREAS, he has donated the use of equipment and his time planning and3 implementing the 2010 Downtown Christmas Parade while co-hosting the parade with the4 proceeds going to the Cortana Kiwanis; and5 WHEREAS, Scott Rogers donated proceeds from his Once children's books to the6 Cortana Kiwanis Club with the money being used to help equip the pediatric department of7 the Earl K. Long Hospital with some desperately needed infant-sized hardware; and8 WHEREAS, he has also donated the profits from The Little Red Boat to Habitat for9 Humanity to help build houses for families who might otherwise never have them; and10 WHEREAS, Scott Rogers spear-headed a campaign which raised $25,000 to air11 condition the Northdale Magnet Academy Auditorium and at the Northdale Magnet12 Academy, an alternative school for at-risk students, Scott also donated his own time and paid13 his staff's time to teach these students career and technology skills; and14 WHEREAS, Scott Rogers is a truly unique individual, who through his long15 standing, dedicated, outstanding and exemplary service to his community, strives to improve16 the condition of his fellow citizens and it is of such individuals that the strength of our17 communities, the quality of life in the state of Louisiana, and the overall vitality of American18 society depend.19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana20 does hereby recognize and commend Scott Rogers for his outstanding and exemplary service21 to the Baton Rouge area community.22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Scott23 Rogers.24 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Jerry J.
