Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 35 BY SENATOR MARIONNEAUX AND REPRESENTATI VE THIBAUT A RESOLUTION To commend the Livonia High School baseball team on winning the Class 3A state championship game. WHEREAS, the fighting Wildcats brought the state title in baseball back to Pointe Coupee Parish for the first time since 1986, when the 1986 Livonia Wildcats and the 1986 Catholic High School of Pointe Coupee Hornets won the state championship in the respective divisions; and WHEREAS, the Livonia High School Wildcats had a very successful 2010 season, having made their way into the semifinals of the Class 3A baseball tournament before suffering a season-ending loss; and WHEREAS, the Wildcats entered the 2011 season with a very young team and with only a single senior on the roster, having lost six seniors to graduation the year before; and WHEREAS, after several weeks of the new season, Livonia High School Baseball Coach Jason Lemoine told his young players that he expected them to play well enough to reach the tournament again and to win it; and WHEREAS, the Wildcats had a great 2011 season, playing well and improving each week, and ultimately winning their way back into the tournament and the championship game; and WHEREAS, Livonia High School was seeded ninth and would face the second- seeded Parkview Baptist Eagles, known as a powerhouse team with seven championships in the past ten years; and WHEREAS, the underdog Wildcats stunned the Eagles in the first inning of the game at J.C. Love Field as they scored three runs and never lost the lead in a victory that ended with a final score of 7-5; and SR NO. 35 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Livonia High School ended the 2011 season with a record of 25-6-1 and earned the praise and applause of a grateful community that had followed their play all season; and WHEREAS, the Wildcats demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship in their 2011 title bid; and WHEREAS, the returning players do not plan to wait another twenty-five years to win another championship and are talking of a repeat in 2012, and that has Coach Lemoine optimistic about his players' chances. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend its highest congratulations and commendations to the 2011 Livonia High School Wildcats for their hard work, dedication and spirit and wish them the best of luck in the future. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the championship team roster included Cameron Bergeron, Ty Gurr, Hunter Franklin, Holden Torres, Brody Torres, Patrick Juge, Mason Torres, John Jarreau, Mason Klotz, Dylan Gremillion, Brandon Armand, Zack Guillot, Jacob Gabor, Jarrod Jarreau, Dylan Bergeron, and Holden Webber and Head Coach Jason Lemoine and Assistant Coaches Lance Jarreau and Wade Lott. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Livonia High School and each coach and player respectively. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
