Commends Courtney Mumphrey on being selected as a member of the Tiger Twelve Class of 2011. A RESOLUTION1 To commend Courtney Lynn Mumphrey on being selected as a member of the Tiger Twelve2 Class of 2011.3 WHEREAS, on May 5, 1995, students, staff and faculty at Louisiana State University4 crafted a statement of position regarding the university's basic principles as an academic5 community entitled, The Louisiana State University Commitment to Community; and6 WHEREAS, the document promotes Louisiana State University as an interactive7 community in which students, faculty, and staff strive to pursue truth, advance learning, and8 uphold the highest standards of performance in an academic and social environment; and9 WHEREAS, additionally, it describes Louisiana State University as a community10 that fosters individual development and the creation of bonds that transcend the time spent11 within its gates; and12 WHEREAS, the document lists seven basic principles which states the expectations13 of its members, including accepting responsibility for their actions, holding themselves and14 others to the highest standards of academic, personal, and social integrity, and practicing15 justice, equality, and compassion in human relations; and16 WHEREAS, the principles also include respecting the dignity of all persons and17 accepting individual differences, respecting the environment and the rights and property of18 SR NO. 72 SLS 11RS-1432 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 3 others and the university, contributing positively to the life of the campus and surrounding1 community, and using their experiences at Louisiana State University to be an active citizen2 in an international and interdependent world; and3 WHEREAS, to promote these principles, the Office of the Dean of Students4 recognizes twelve outstanding graduates each year who are current, full-time students, who5 have accumulated a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5, and have best6 demonstrated the seven basic principles outlined in The Louisiana State University7 Commitment to Community and who contribute to the life of the campus and surrounding8 community as members of the Tiger Twelve; and9 WHEREAS, Courtney Lynn Mumphrey was honored as a member of the Tiger10 Twelve Class of 2011 at a ceremony held on Saturday, April 30, 2011, in the Lod Cook11 Alumni Center; and12 WHEREAS, Courtney is a resident of Plaquemine and majored in Biological13 Sciences; and14 WHEREAS, she is also a four year member and Spring Invitational and Overall co-15 chair for Honors College Advocates, and volunteers in public schools with Everybody16 Reads; and17 WHEREAS, Courtney is a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, and has18 performed research in Dr. Pat DiMario's lab working on detecting apoptosis and autophagy19 in Drosophila melanogaster using immunofluoresence and dissection techniques; and20 WHEREAS, she has been accepted into the Louisiana State University Health21 Sciences Center in Shreveport, where she plans to pursue her graduate studies in medicine;22 and23 WHEREAS, an exceptional young woman, Courtney serves as an inspiration to24 others because of her integrity and steadfast dedication to helping others, and merits a25 sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for the tremendous honor and pride she26 brings to her family, friends, community, and the state of Louisiana.27 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana28 does hereby commend and congratulate Courtney Lynn Mumphrey on being selected as a29 member of the prestigious Tiger Twelve Class of 2011.30 SR NO. 72 SLS 11RS-1432 ORIGINAL Page 3 of 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to1 Courtney Lynn Mumphrey.2 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Nancy Vicknair.
