Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 72 BY SENATOR MARIONNEAUX A RESOLUTION To commend Courtney Lynn Mumphrey on being selected as a member of the Tiger Twelve Class of 2011. WHEREAS, on May 5, 1995, students, staff and faculty at Louisiana State University crafted a statement of position regarding the university's basic principles as an academic community entitled, The Louisiana State University Commitment to Community; and WHEREAS, the document promotes Louisiana State University as an interactive community in which students, faculty, and staff strive to pursue truth, advance learning, and uphold the highest standards of performance in an academic and social environment; and WHEREAS, additionally, it describes Louisiana State University as a community that fosters individual development and the creation of bonds that transcend the time spent within its gates; and WHEREAS, the document lists seven basic principles which states the expectations of its members, including accepting responsibility for their actions, holding themselves and others to the highest standards of academic, personal, and social integrity, and practicing justice, equality, and compassion in human relations; and WHEREAS, the principles also include respecting the dignity of all persons and accepting individual differences, respecting the environment and the rights and property of others and the university, contributing positively to the life of the campus and surrounding community, and using their experiences at Louisiana State University to be an active citizen in an international and interdependent world; and WHEREAS, to promote these principles, the Office of the Dean of Students recognizes twelve outstanding graduates each year who are current, full-time students, who have accumulated a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5, and have best demonstrated the seven basic principles outlined in The Louisiana State University Commitment to Community and who contribute to the life of the campus and surrounding community as members of the Tiger Twelve; and WHEREAS, Courtney Lynn Mumphrey was honored as a member of the Tiger SR NO. 72 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 Twelve Class of 2011 at a ceremony held on Saturday, April 30, 2011, in the Lod Cook Alumni Center; and WHEREAS, Courtney is a resident of Plaquemine and majored in Biological Sciences; and WHEREAS, she is also a four year member and Spring Invitational and Overall co- chair for Honors College Advocates, and volunteers in public schools with Everybody Reads; and WHEREAS, Courtney is a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, and has performed research in Dr. Pat DiMario's lab working on detecting apoptosis and autophagy in Drosophila melanogaster using immunofluoresence and dissection techniques; and WHEREAS, she has been accepted into the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, where she plans to pursue her graduate studies in medicine; and WHEREAS, an exceptional young woman, Courtney serves as an inspiration to others because of her integrity and steadfast dedication to helping others, and merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for the tremendous honor and pride she brings to her family, friends, community, and the state of Louisiana. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Courtney Lynn Mumphrey on being selected as a member of the prestigious Tiger Twelve Class of 2011. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Courtney Lynn Mumphrey. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
