SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 80

SENATE. Recognizes Tuesday, June 7, 2011, as Louisiana Industry for Film and
Entertainment Day.
A RESOLUTION1
To recognize Tuesday, June 7, 2011, as "Louisiana Industry for Film and Entertainment2
Day" in the state of Louisiana.3
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Industry for Film and Entertainment was established in4
2010 to further promote and protect the film and entertainment industry in the state of5
Louisiana; and6
WHEREAS, Louisiana has become a premiere destination for the film and television7
industry, live and recorded performances, and the creation of digital media thanks in large8
part to the state's uniquely integrated and effective tax incentive package; and9
WHEREAS, Louisiana has developed a state-of-the-art infrastructure, known10
nationally and internationally for our production, post-production, and recorded and live11
performance capabilities; and12
WHEREAS, in 2010, Louisiana experienced its fifth consecutive year of growth for13
the state's overall entertainment industry; and14
WHEREAS, Louisiana is quickly becoming a premiere location for all things15
entertainment, producing more than one hundred various types of productions in 2010 and16
representing an estimated eight hundred million dollars in direct local spending and nearly17
one billion four hundred million dollars in total production budgets; and18 SR NO. 80

WHEREAS, the entertainment industry represents one of the fastest growing1
segments of our workforce, increasing employment in this area by over four hundred2
percent, since the inception of our incentive programs; and3
WHEREAS, combined with the state's incentive program, the state's healthy business4
climate, low taxes, competitive labor, and operating costs have created a number of5
homegrown companies employing thousands of Louisiana citizens; and6
WHEREAS, companies coming to Louisiana will find a skilled workforce of more7
than one hundred three thousand professionals with backgrounds in production, post-8
production, software development, and digital media; and9
WHEREAS, the entertainment industry is helping to establish a new creative class10
of jobs and an opportunity that serves as a beacon of light to our best and brightest,11
beckoning them back to Louisiana; and12
WHEREAS, the Louisiana entertainment industry is essential to the state's economic13
growth and to its continued economic development.14
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana15
does hereby recognize Tuesday, June 7, 2011, as "Louisiana Industry for Film and16
Entertainment Day" in the state of Louisiana.17
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the18
Louisiana Industry for Film and Entertainment.19
