SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 93
BY SENATOR CHAISSON 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Senator Michael J. "Mike" Michot on years of
distinguished public service.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the honorable Mike Michot, state senator for the parish of Lafayette, for his2
many outstanding contributions to the betterment of the state of Louisiana.3
WHEREAS, Mike Michot has rendered exemplary service to his constituency during4
his sixteen-year tenure as an elected member of both houses of the Louisiana Legislature,5
providing faithful representation for House of Representatives District 43 when first elected6
in 1995; four years later winning election to the Senate District 23 seat; and having served7
this body with prestige for twelve years; and8
WHEREAS, public service is an inherent trait of the Michot family passed down9
from father to son; his dad, retired businessman Louis Michot, Jr., was a political activist10
who held several elected offices as state representative and as state superintendent of11
education; and12
WHEREAS, Michael John Michot was born on December 12, 1963, to parents, Louis13
and Pat Smith Michot, and reared in a exuberant household of eight brothers and sisters14
filled with the influences of politics and Acadiana culture; and15
WHEREAS, after Mike Michot graduated from Cathedral-Carmel High School, he16
obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from University of Southwestern17
Louisiana, now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he pledged Sigma18 SR NO. 93

Nu fraternity and served as president of the local chapter; and1
WHEREAS, after graduation, he became an active participant in the family business,2
Louis Michot and Associates, Inc., and later branched out with his own corporate3
acquisitions comprised of Premier Medical Equipment and real estate developments; and4
WHEREAS, in 1994, he helped to co-found Citizens for Accountable Government,5
a public opinion group that promotes the importance of accountability and transparency in6
all governmental transactions; and7
WHEREAS, in 1995, with the encouragement of family and friends, Mike Michot8
succeeded in capturing the House of Representatives seat by a landslide election with sixty-9
nine percent of the vote; and10
WHEREAS, during his singular term in the House, Mike Michot garnered house11
committee assignments to commerce, to labor and industrial relations, and to natural12
resources, and penned legislation to address the issues of commercial regulations, the13
environment, and unemployment compensation; and14
WHEREAS, upon his subsequent election to the upper chamber, Senator Michot was15
keen to bring his business insight and corporate background to full measure with service on16
the standing committees of finance as its chairman, commerce, consumer protection, and17
international affairs as its vice chairman, revenue and fiscal affairs, judiciary A, and natural18
resources; and19
WHEREAS, Senator Michot also attended to the functions of select committees for20
coastal restoration and flood control, the Senate Executive Committee, and as chairman of21
the Select Committee on Consumer Affairs and Technology; and22
 WHEREAS, Senator Michot oversaw the state's fiscal and budgetary matters with23
resourceful aplomb as both chairman and vice chairman of the Joint Legislative Committee24
on the Budget and as a member of the Joint Legislative Committee on Capital Outlay; and25
WHEREAS, his participation in the Commission on Streamlining Government26
focused on confecting legislation that addressed the critical issue of merging applied27
electronic technologies into governmental functions to provide improved efficiency and28
performance in the delivery of state services; and29
WHEREAS, while in the legislature, Mike Michot was a skilled supporter of30 SR NO. 93

economic development, protection of fragile wetlands, budgetary controls, accountability,1
data processing improvements, and equitable taxation; and 2
WHEREAS, Senator Michot has been the recipient of numerous accolades in3
recognition of his legislative service and was especially honored to receive "Legis-Gator of4
the Year" award for 2010 from the Southwest Louisiana Chamber of Commerce; and5
WHEREAS, many civic and nonprofit agencies have benefitted from his expertise6
and active participation which include the Broussard Industrial Development Board, the7
Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, Acadiana Handicap Services, the Cathedral-8
Carmel Foundation, the Kiwanis Club, the Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana, the American9
Heart Association, and the United Way; and 10
WHEREAS, although the demands of public life and civic duty keep him quite busy,11
be assured that his family is always his first concern, with his wife of twenty-two years,12
Monique Broussard Michot, and their two precious children, Michael, Jr., and Mary13
Carolyn; and14
WHEREAS, always the doting father, Mike makes every effort to be home in the15
evenings for dinner and attendance at school activities, even during hectic legislative16
sessions; and17
WHEREAS, Senator Mike Michot is a public figure of the highest caliber whose18
service as a state representative and state senator has merited his consistent reelection to19
office, and during which time, he has conscientiously confronted those challenges affecting20
the citizens of his district and the state of Louisiana; and 21
WHEREAS, as Senator Michot prepares to return to the private sector, he deserves22
heartfelt commendation for those extraordinary strides he has taken to improve the function23
of state government while serving as an exceptional member of the Louisiana Legislature.24
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana25
does hereby commend Senator Michael J. "Mike" Michot on his years of dedicated public26
service to this body and the state of Louisiana.27
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does28
hereby wish for Senator Mike Michot every success in his future endeavors.29 SR NO. 93

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to1
Senator Mike Michot.2
