JUDGES:  Provides authority for federal judges to perform marriage ceremonies
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 9:203(E)(10), relative to judges of a court of the United States; to authorize2
federal judges in certain municipalities to perform marriage ceremonies; and to3
provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 9:203(E)(10) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6
ยง203.  Officiant; judges and justices of the peace7

(10) A judge of a court of the United States whose official duty station11
includes a municipality having a population in excess of one hundred five thousand12
but less than one hundred thirty thousand persons according to the latest decennial13
census may perform marriage ceremonies within his official duty station.  The14
authority granted by this Paragraph shall only be effective from August 1, 2012,15

Abstract: Authorizes federal judges whose district encompasses a municipality of more
than 105,000 but less than 130,000 persons to perform marriage ceremonies from
Aug. 1, 2012, to Sept. 1, 2012.
Present law provides that federal judges and magistrates whose district contains certain
municipalities may perform marriage ceremonies.
Proposed law retains present law and provides that a federal judge whose district
encompasses a municipality of more than 105,000 but less than 130,000 persons to perform
marriage ceremonies between Aug. 1, 2012, and Sept. 1, 2012.
