INSURANCE: Provides for car carrier insurance requirements
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 32:1717(D), relative to motor vehicles; to provide that certain operators of car2
carriers are not required to have certain license plates or insurance; and to provide3
for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 32:1717(D) is hereby enacted to read as follows:6
ยง1717. Qualifications of licensee; proof of financial responsibility in lieu of7
insurance8

D. Car carrier companies who transport less than five motor vehicles and do10
not store or hold motor vehicles shall be licensed as tow trucks upon application and11
submission of an affidavit to the Department of Public Safety and Corrections,12
stating that the company does not store or hold motor vehicles and does not carry13
garage keeper's legal liability or garage liability insurance. These companies shall14
receive a "car carrier" endorsement on their required motor vehicle registration. This15
does not exclude the car carrier company from any other regulations as set by16

Abstract: Exempts car carrier companies from certain insurance requirements
Proposed law adds that car carriers that are capable of carrying less than five motor vehicles
shall be licensed as tow trucks upon their submission of an affidavit to DPS&C stating that
they do not store motor vehicles.
