AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 32:1717(D), relative to motor vehicles; to provide that certain operators of car2
carriers are not required to have certain license plates or insurance; and to provide3
for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 32:1717(D) is hereby enacted to read as follows:6
ยง1717. Qualifications of licensee; proof of financial responsibility in lieu of7

D. Car carrier companies which transport less than five motor vehicles and10
do not store or hold motor vehicles shall be licensed as tow trucks upon application11
and submission of an affidavit to the Department of Public Safety and Corrections,12
stating that the company does not store or hold motor vehicles and does not carry13
garage keeper's legal liability or garage liability insurance. These companies shall14
receive a "car carrier" endorsement on their required motor vehicle registration. This15
does not exclude the car carrier company from any other regulations as set by the16
Louisiana Towing and Storage Act.17
