GERMAI N MTR VEHICLE/LICEN PLATES: Creates the Korean Defense Service license plate AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 47:490.25, relative to military honor license plates; to provide for the Korean2 Defense Service license plate; to provide for qualified applicants; to provide for rules3 and regulations; and to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 47:490.25 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6 ยง490.25. Military honor license plates; Korean Defense Service7 A. The provisions of this Section shall be applicable to Korean Defense8 Service Medal recipients.9 B. Upon application of a Korean Defense Service Medal recipient, the10 secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall issue a military11 honor license plate to be used in lieu of a regular motor vehicle registration plate.12 The license plates shall be restricted to use on passenger cars, pickup trucks,13 recreational vehicles, motorcycles, and vans. The military honor license plate shall14 be known as the "Korean Defense Service" license plate and shall bear a likeness of15 the Korean Defense Service Medal centered on the left side of the license plate and16 the words "Korean Defense Service Veteran" centered on the bottom of the plate17 under the license plate number.18 C. D. The secretary shall adopt rules and regulations to implement the1 provisions of this Section, including but not limited to rules governing the transfer2 of the license plates from one vehicle to another and the disposition of such license3 plates.4 E.(1) Any applicant who qualifies for the military honor license plate5 authorized by this Section may be issued a plate for each vehicle registered in the6 applicant's name.7 (2) Except as otherwise provided in this Subsection, each military honor8 license plate issued under this Section shall be returned to the secretary upon the9 death of the person to whom the plate was issued. A surviving spouse of a person10 to whom a license plate was issued under this Section may retain a license plate11 issued under this Section, provided the surviving spouse has not remarried and12 provided the surviving spouse applies to the secretary for a transfer of the license13 plate to the surviving spouse. A military honor license plate transferred under this14 Subsection to a surviving spouse shall be returned to the secretary upon the death or15 remarriage of the surviving spouse. In the event that a Korean Defense Service16 Medal recipient holds more than one military honor license plate at the time the17 Korean Defense Service Medal recipient dies, the surviving spouse may determine18 which of the license plates the surviving spouse wishes to retain.19 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services. The bill limits the issuance of the plate to recipients of the Korean Defense Service Medal. Propose law requires the secretary for DPS&C to issue military honor license plates for recipients of the Korean Defense Service Medal. The license plates for Korean Defense Service Medal recipients shall be known as the "Korean Defense Service" license plate. Proposed law provides for the design of the Korean Defense Service license plate. The plate shall bear the likeness of the Korean Defense Service Medal centered on the left side of the license plate and the words "Korean Defense Service Veteran" centered on the bottom of the plate under the plate number. Proposed law provides that the fee shall be the regular motor vehicle license fee and the secretary shall adopt rules and regulations to implement the provisions provided in proposed law, including rules governing the transfer and disposition of such license plates. Proposed law provides that any applicant who qualifies for a Korean Defense Service license plate shall be issued a plate for each vehicle registered in the applicant's name. Further provides that each military honor license plate issued under the provisions of proposed law shall be returned to the secretary upon the death of the person to whom it was issued. A surviving spouse may retain the military license plate, provided the surviving spouse has not remarried and provided the surviving spouse applies for a transfer. The transferred license plate shall also be returned to the secretary upon the death or remarriage of the surviving spouse. (Adds R.S. 47:490.25)
