Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE BILL NO. 351 BY REPRESENTATIVE BURRELL SCHOOLS/NONPUBLIC: Requires BESE to develop and implement a school accountability system for approved nonpublic schools AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 17:10.9, relative to school accountability; to require the State Board of2 Elementary and Secondary Education to develop and implement an accountability3 system for certain nonpublic schools; to provide relative to criteria; to provide for4 effectiveness; and to provide for related matters.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. R.S. 17:10.9 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง10.9. School accountability system; nonpublic schools8 A. The State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education shall develop9 and implement a school accountability system for nonpublic schools that are10 approved by the board and that receive public funds.11 B. The system, to the extent possible, shall be comparable to and contain the12 same components, requirements, and criteria as the school and district accountability13 system for public schools, including but not limited to requirements for student14 testing, assignment of letter grades to schools, and reporting of results to parents.15 Section 2. Proposed law adds that the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) shall develop, and, beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, implement a school accountability system for all nonpublic schools that are BESE-approved and that receive public funds. Such system, to the extent possible, shall be comparable to and contain the same components, requirements, and criteria as the accountability system for public schools, including but not limited to requirements for student testing, assignment of letter grades to schools, and reporting of results to parents.
