HOUSE BILL NO. 357

AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 13:2618, relative to the LaSalle Parish justice of the peace2
courts; to provide for the territorial jurisdiction of such courts; to provide relative to3
the election to the offices of justice of the peace and constable; to provide for4
effectiveness; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 13:2618 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 7
ยง2618.  Territorial jurisdiction; LaSalle Parish justice of the peace courts8
A. Effective January 1, 2003, the The territorial limits of the justice of the9
peace courts in LaSalle Parish shall be as follows:10
(1) The first justice of the peace district and court shall consist of Precincts11
1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 4-1, and 4-2, and 4-4.12
(2) The second justice of the peace district and court shall consist of13
Precincts 2-1, 2-3, 3-1, 3-2, and 3-3 4-3.14
(3) The third justice of the peace district and court shall consist of Precincts15
7-1, 7-2, 8-2, 8-3, 8-5, 8-6, and 8-7, and 10-1.16
(4) The fourth justice of the peace district and court shall consist of Precincts17
5-1, 6-1, and 6-2, and 10-1.18
(5) The fifth justice of the peace district and court shall consist of Precincts19
9-1, 9-2, 9-3, 9-4, and 9-5,and 10-4.20
B. The districts provided in Subsection A of this Section shall be effective21
for election purposes with the opening of the qualifying period for the regularly22
scheduled 2002 2014 primary election for justices of the peace and constables, and23
the persons elected to the offices of justice of the peace and constable for such justice24 ENROLLEDHB NO. 357

of the peace courts in LaSalle Parish at the next regularly scheduled election and1
their successors shall be elected from the districts provided in Subsection A of this2
Section.  The provisions of Subsection A of this Section shall be effective for all3
other purposes beginning January 1, 2015.4
Section 2.(A) The precincts referenced in this Act are those Voting Districts (VTDs)5
contained in the 2010 Census Redistricting TIGER/Line Shapefiles for the Parish of LaSalle6
in the State of Louisiana.7
(B) When a precinct referenced in this Act has been subdivided by action of the8
parish governing authority on a nongeographic basis or subdivided by action of the parish9
governing authority on a geographic basis in accordance with the provisions of R.S.10
18:532.1, the enumeration in this Act of the general precinct designation shall include all11
nongeographic and all geographic subdivisions thereof, however such subdivisions may be12
designated. The territorial limits of the districts as provided in this Act shall continue in13
effect without change regardless of any changes made to the precincts by the parish14
governing authority.15
Section 3. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not16
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature17
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.  If18
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become19
effective on the day following such approval.20
