HEALTH: Allows automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in high schools that participate
in interscholastic athletics under certain circumstances
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 40:1236.13(E), relative to automated external defibrillators; to2
allow high schools that participate in interscholastic athletics to have an automated3
external defibrillator on their premises; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 40:1236.13(E) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:6
ยง1236.13. Persons in possession of AEDs; training, testing, and notification7
requirements; manufacturer responsibility; possession required8

E.(1) Any institution of higher education that competes in intercollegiate10
athletics shall have an AED on its premises in its athletic department.11
(2) Each high school that participates in interscholastic athletics may have12
an AED on its premises at the athletic director's option.13

maintenance, testing, and notification requirements regarding the use of AEDs.  Requires
certain entities to have AEDs on their premises including but not limited to higher education
institutions that compete in intercollegiate athletics.
Proposed law retains present law and adds that each high school that participates in
interscholastic athletics may have an AED on its premises at the athletic director's option.
