COURTS/MAYORS:  Provides for additional court costs for the Lockport Mayor's Court
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 33:447.9, relative to the Mayor's Court of the town of Lockport; to provide for2
additional court costs for violations of municipal ordinances; to provide for the use3
of additional funds; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 33:447.9 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6
ยง447.9.  Mayor's Court; town of Lockport; additional court costs7
Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the mayor of the8
town of Lockport may also impose additional court costs not to exceed forty dollars9
for each offense, as defined by ordinance, on any defendant convicted of a violation10
of a municipal ordinance.  Any additional amount in court costs collected pursuant11
to this Section shall be allocated to the town of Lockport to be used for the purchase,12
repair, and replacement of law enforcement equipment and technological upgrades13

Abstract: Authorizes an increase of $40 in court costs for violations of municipal
ordinances in the Mayor's Court of the town of Lockport.
Present law (R.S. 33:441) authorizes a mayor, as the presiding officer of a mayor's court, to
impose court costs, not to exceed $30 for each offense, on any defendant convicted of a
violation of a municipal ordinance.
Proposed law authorizes the mayor for the town of Lockport to impose additional court costs
not to exceed $40 for each offense on any defendant convicted of a violation of a municipal
ordinance.
Proposed law requires that the additional costs be used for the purchase, repair, and
replacement of law enforcement equipment and technological upgrades for the town of
Lockport and the Lockport Police Department.
