Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE BILL NO. 399 BY REPRESENTATIVE BARROW CONSUMERS/PROTECTION: Requires a merchant to request a form of photo identification when a consumer is using a credit or debit card AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 9:3518.4, relative to credit cards; to require a merchant to request a form of2 photo identification when a consumer is using a credit or debit card; to prohibit a3 merchant from recording information contained on the photo identification; and to4 provide for related matters.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. R.S. 9:3518.4 is hereby enacted to read as follows:7 ยง3518.4. Credit or debit cards; photo identification required; recording information8 prohibited9 A merchant shall request a form of photo identification, including but not10 limited to a driver's license, from the consumer in a transaction where a credit card11 or debit card is used as the form of payment.
