[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] Hoffmann HB No. 40 Abstract: Authorizes the state superintendent of education to appoint a designee to serve on the Teachers' Retirement System of La. (TRSL) board of trustees. Present law provides relative to the membership of the Teachers' Retirement System of La. (TRSL) board of trustees, including certain trustees who serve ex officio (by virtue of their office), including the state superintendent of education, the state treasurer, and the chairmen of the House and Senate retirement committees. Of these ex officio members, present law authorizes only such committee chairmen to appoint a designee, though it provides that the superintendent's first assistant may serve in his place. Proposed law deletes present law relative to such first assistant and grants the superintendent the same authority provided to the House and Senate retirement committee chairmen to appoint a designee.
