R.S. 32:412(K) is hereby enacted to read as follows:6 §412. Amount of fees; credit or refund; duration of license; disbursement of funds;7 renewal by mail or electronic commerce of Class "D" or "E" drivers' licenses;8 disposition of certain fees; exception9 * * *10 K. Upon request, the word "Veteran" shall be exhibited in the color black11 below the person's photograph on the driver's license regardless of its class, upon12 presentation of a copy of the person's DD Form 214, issued by the United States13 Department of Defense, or equivalent, as established by administrative rule. No14 additional fee shall be charged to include such designation. The deputy secretary of15 the Department of Public Safety and Corrections, public safety services, shall16 comply with the provisions of this Subsection. Section 2. R.S. 40:1321(K) is hereby enacted to read as follows:1 §1321. Special identification cards; issuance; fees; expiration and renewal;2 exceptions; promulgation of rules; promotion of use; persons less than3 twenty-one years of age; the Protect and Save our Children Program;4 Selective Service Registration5 * * *6 K. Upon request, the word "Veteran" shall be exhibited in the color black7 below the person's photograph on a special identification card upon presentation of8 a copy of the person's DD Form 214, issued by the United States Department of9 Defense, or equivalent, as established by administrative rule. Proposed law provides that public safety services, within DPS&C, shall include the designation "Veteran" on drivers' licenses and special identification cards. Provides that the wording shall be in black below the photograph. Proposed law only requires the placement of the designation if the person requests it and provides proof of veteran status. Veteran status can only be proven by the submission of a DD Form 214 or equivalent as established by the department pursuant to administrative rule. Proposed law provides public safety services with rulemaking authority to implement the provisions of proposed law.
