GERMAIN MTR VEHICLE/DRIVER LIC: Increases the age by which a person must submit a signed statement attesting to supervised driving practice when issued a Class "E" driver's license for the first time AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 32:405.1, relative to age requirements of Class "E" driver's2 license; to increase the age of which a person must submit a signed statement3 attesting to supervised driving practice; and to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 32:405.1 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:6 ยง405.1. Age requirements7 Subject to R.S. 32:407, a Class "E" driver's license or a Class "D" chauffeur's8 license shall be granted to a person seventeen years of age or above. Class "A", "B",9 or "C" licenses shall be granted only to persons eighteen years of age or above.10 Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary, a seventeen an eighteen year old or11 older first time applicant for a Class "E" license shall provide a signed statement to12 the department attesting that the applicant has completed a minimum of fifty hours13 of supervised driving practice with a licensed parent, guardian, or adult at least age14 twenty-one or older. At least fifteen of these hours must be nighttime driving.15 However, hazardous materials endorsements shall be issued only to persons twenty-16 one years of age or above. Present law requires a 17 year old or older first time Class "E" license applicant to provide a signed statement to the department attesting that the applicant has completed a minimum of 50 hours of supervised driving practice with a licensed parent, guardian, or adult of at least 21 years of age or older. Proposed law increases the age at which a person must submit a signed statement to 18 years of age. (Amends R.S. 32:405.1)
