GERMAIN VETERANS: Exempts veterans from the payment of fees for special identification cards AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 32:412.2, relative to veterans; to exempt disabled veterans from2 the payment of fees for special identification cards; to provide for certain exceptions;3 and to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 32:412.2 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 6 ยง412.2. Disabled veteran exemption7 A. A veteran of service in the United States Armed Forces shall be exempt8 from the payment of fees under this Chapter for the issuance of a driver's license or9 a special identification card, issued pursuant to R.S. 40:1321, if the veteran meets all10 of the following qualifications:11 (1) Was honorably discharged.12 (2) Has a service-related disability of at least fifty percent.13 (3) Receives compensation from the United States government because of14 such disability.15 (4) Is not subject to the registration requirements of Chapter 3-B of Title 1516 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950.17 B. The department shall adopt rules relative to the proof of entitlement to1 such exemption and any other rules as may be necessary to implement the provisions2 of this Section.3 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services. Present law exempts a veteran from the payment of drivers' licenses fees, provided the veteran meets all of the following qualifications: (1)Was honorably discharged. (2)Has a service-related disability of at least 50%. (3)Receives compensation from the U.S. government because of such disability. (4)Is not subject to the registration requirements of Chapter 3-B of Title 15 of the La. Revised Statutes of 1950. Proposed law exempts the same person from the payment of fees associated with the issuance of a special identification card and further provides that the exemption in present law does not apply to fees associated with the costs of a certain hardship license granted pursuant to present law.
