Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE BILL NO. 593 BY REPRESENTATIVE TALBOT AND SENATOR MARTI NY ENGINEERS: Excepts work performed by a naval architect or marine engineer from provisions regulating engineers and land surveyors AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 37:701(I), relative to professional engineering and land surveying; to provide2 for exception to application of provisions for naval architects and marine engineers;3 to provide for an effective date; and to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 37:701(I) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6 ยง701. Public and private work; application of provisions7 * * *8 I. No plans, specifications, analyses, drawings, or designs prepared by or9 under the direction of a naval architect or marine engineer relating to any navigable10 vessel or its component parts or systems shall come under the jurisdiction of this11 Chapter.12 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not13 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature14 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. Present law licenses and regulates, through the La. Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board, the practice of professional engineering and land surveying and provides for exceptions and exemptions from regulation for certain persons or activities. Proposed law retains present law and provides an exception to the regulation of the plans, specs, drawings, or designs of a naval architect or marine engineer relating to any navigable vessel or its component parts or systems. Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action. (Adds R.S. 37:701(I))
