PORTS/BATON ROUGE: Provides for two additional members on the Greater Baton
Rouge Port Commission
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 34:1221(A)(introductory paragraph) and (5), relative to the2
Greater Baton Rouge Port Commission; to increase the membership of the3
commission; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 34:1221(A)(introductory paragraph) and (5) are hereby amended and6
reenacted to read as follows:7
ยง1221. Creation of Greater Baton Rouge Port Commission; per diem; number of8
days per diem allowed9
A. There is hereby created a commission to be known as the Greater Baton10
Rouge Port Commission which shall be composed of fifteen members appointed by11
the governor who shall serve at the pleasure of the governor.  The members shall12
receive per diem; provided, however, that the per diem of each member shall not13
exceed seventy-five dollars per day during the time the member is in actual14
attendance upon the board, or performing duties authorized by the board.  The per15
diem shall be payable for a maximum of twenty-four days per year, except if an16
emergency is declared by the governor. During the period of an emergency as17
determined by the governor, the commission shall be authorized to hold as many18

members shall be paid per diem for such meetings or activities. Members shall be1
appointed as follows:2

(5)  Two Four commissioners shall be appointed by the governor from a4
panel of six eight names submitted by Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation, Inc.  Of5
the six eight names submitted, three four shall reside on the east side of the6
Mississippi River in Ascension, East Baton Rouge, or Iberville Parishes parishes and7
three four shall reside on the west side of the Mississippi River in Ascension,8
Iberville, or West Baton Rouge Parishes parishes and the governor shall appoint one9
two of the nominees from the east side and one two from the west side of the10
Mississippi River. 11

Abstract: Adds two more members to the Greater Baton Rouge Port Commission.
Present law provides that the Greater Baton Rouge Port Commission be composed of 15
members.  Present law specifically provides that two of the commissioners shall be
appointed from a list of six names submitted by the La. Farm Bureau Federation. Provides
that of those six names three shall reside on the east side of the Mississippi River in
Ascension, EBR, or Iberville parishes and three shall reside on the west side of the river in
Ascension, Iberville, or WBR parishes.  Provides that the governor shall appoint one from
the east side of the river and one from the west side of the river.
Proposed law increases the number of members provided for in present law to four.
Proposed law increases the list of names submitted to eight and further provides that the
governor shall appoint two members from the east side of the river and two members from
the west side of the river.
