WORKERS COMPENSATION:  Provides for a reduction or offset of workers'
compensation for professional athletes
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 23:1225(D), relative to workers' compensation for professional athletes; to2
provide for an offset of compensation; and to provide for related matters.3
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:4
Section 1.  R.S. 23:1225(D) is hereby enacted to read as follows:5
ยง1225.  Reductions when other benefits payable6

D.  The compensation benefits payable to a professional athlete pursuant to8
any provision of this Chapter shall be reduced or offset on a dollar-for-dollar basis9
instead of a week-to-week basis, by an amount equal to the total amount of any of10
the following:11
(1)  Payment obtained pursuant to a collective bargaining agreement.12
(2) Contract work.13
(3) Severance or termination pay.14
(4) Injured reserve pay.15
(5)  Grievance or settlement pay.16
(6) Payment made by the athlete's employer pursuant to any contract or17
agreement.18
(7)  Any other payment, wage, or financial benefit the athlete may receive.19 HLS 12RS-1390	ORIGINAL

Abstract: Provides for an offset of workers' compensation benefits for professional
athletes.
Present law provides an employer a limited reduction in compensation benefits only when
the employee is receiving certain other specially enumerated benefits.
Proposed law provides that workers' compensation benefits for a professional athlete shall
be reduced or off-set, on a dollar-for-dollar basis, by an amount equal to the total amount of
benefits, wages, or other type of payment he receives, including payments obtained pursuant
to a collective bargaining agreement, any contract work, severance or termination pay,
injured or reserve pay, or grievance or settlement pay.
