INSURANCE DEPARTMENT: Requires registration of certain appraisers with the
Department of Insurance
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 22:821(B)(34) and Part XI of Chapter 5 of Title 22 of the Louisiana Revised2
Statutes of 1950, to be comprised of R.S. 22:1807.1, 1807.2, and 1807.3, relative to3
appraisers; to require registration of certain appraisers with the Department of4
Insurance; to grant regulatory authority to the commissioner; to provide for a5
registration for certain appraisal registrations; and to provide for related matters.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1. R.S. 22:821(B)(34) and Part XI of Chapter 5 of Title 22 of the Louisiana8
Revised Statutes of 1950, comprised of R.S. 22:1807.1, 1807.2, and 1807.3, are hereby9
enacted to read as follows:10
§821.  Fees11

B. The following fees and licenses shall be collected in advance by the13
commissioner of insurance:14

PART XI.  REGISTRATION OF APPRAISERS FOR FIRE1
AND EXTENDED COVERAGE2
§1807.1.  Registration required3
A. No person shall act as, or hold himself out to be, an appraiser in4
accordance with the provisions of R.S. 22:1311F(2)(c) unless such person is5
registered with the commissioner of insurance as an appraiser.6
B. Each person shall register with the commissioner on a form to be7
prescribed by the commissioner and shall pay the fee required by R.S.8
22:821(B)(34).9
C. Each registration submitted pursuant to this Part shall expire each year on10
the anniversary date and may be renewed by filing a request for renewal on a form11
to be prescribed by the commissioner and by paying the renewal fee required by R.S.12
22:821(B)(34).13
§1807.2.  Rules and regulations14
The commissioner of insurance is hereby authorized to adopt such15
regulations, in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act, as are necessary16
to effectuate the requirements of this Part to regulate registration of appraisers for17
fire and extended coverage.18
§1807.3.  Enforcement19
The commissioner is hereby authorized to take whichever actions are20
necessary or appropriate to enforce the provisions of this Part and the commissioner's21
regulations. The commissioner may order a person to cease and desist from22
committing violations of this Part or the commissioner's regulations or may issue an23
order prohibiting a person from acting as an appraiser and may rescind the24
registration of any person, if the person has violated this Part or the commissioner's25

Proposed law requires persons acting as appraisers for fire and extended coverage to register
with the commissioner and pay an initial fee of $55.
Proposed law provides that registrations shall expire one year from the anniversary date, at
which time the registrant shall file a request for renewal and pay a renewal fee of $50.
Proposed law grants the commissioner the authority to adopt rules and regulations to carry
out and enforce proposed law.
