FEES/LICENSES/PERMITS:  Repeals the La. Professional Geoscience Practice Act
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 44:4.1(B)(21) and to repeal Chapter 8-A of Title 37 of the2
Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, comprised of R.S. 37:711.1 through 711.24,3
relative to the practice of geoscience; to repeal the public records exemption for4
records maintained by the La. Board of Professional Geoscientists; to repeal the5
Louisiana Professional Geoscience Practice Act; and to provide for related matters.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1. R.S. 44:4.1(B)(21) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:8

B. The legislature further recognizes that there exist exceptions, exemptions,11
and limitations to the laws pertaining to public records throughout the revised12
statutes and codes of this state. Therefore, the following exceptions, exemptions, and13
limitations are hereby continued in effect by incorporation into this Chapter by14
citation:15

Section 2. Chapter 8-A of Title 37 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950,1
comprised of R.S. 37:711.1 through 711.24, is hereby repealed in its entirety.2

Present law establishes the La. Board of Professional Geoscientists and provides for the
membership and financial status of the board, the qualifications of the members of the board,
the payment of compensation to and reimbursement of expenses of the board members, a
minimum amount of required regular meetings per year, the domicile and principal office
of the board, and the powers of the board.
Proposed law repeals present law.
Present law provides for the records and reports of the board. Present law further provides
that all records maintained by the board in connection with disciplinary and enforcement
proceedings and actions or its administration of examinations, including examinations,
answer sheets, solutions, and grade sheets, together with all the background information
involving personal and employer references shall be deemed confidential and as such,
exempt from the provisions of the Public Records Law.

Present law authorizes the board to publish a roster of all professional geoscientists.

Present law prohibits a person from engaging in the practice of geoscience unless the person
holds a license issued pursuant to present law and provides for the application for licensure,
the requirements for licensure including a professional competency examination and
minimum qualifying work experience, licensing reciprocity with other states, temporary
licenses, and the expiration and renewal of licenses issued by the board.
