TRAFFIC:  Provides for penalties for texting while driving
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 32.300.5(C)(1), relative to the penalties for texting while driving2
a motor vehicle; to increase the maximum fine for a first violation; and to provide3
for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 32:300.5(C)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted as follows:6
ยง300.5. Use of certain wireless telecommunications devices for text messaging7

C.(1) The first violation of the provisions of this Section shall be punishable10
by a fine of not more than one three hundred seventy-five dollars.11

Abstract: Increases the maximum fine for a first violation of the texting while driving
provision. 
Present law provides that the first violation of the present law shall be punishable of a fine
of not more than $175.
Proposed law increases the maximum to $300.
