BY REPRESENTATIVES TIM BURNS AND FOIL
CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of and posthumously commends
Kerry Joseph Triche of Baton Rouge
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To express condolences upon the death of Kerry Joseph Triche of Baton Rouge and to2
commend him posthumously for his exceptional achievements and contributions.3
WHEREAS, it is fitting to recognize and record for posterity the extraordinary4
achievements and contributions of Kerry Joseph Triche of Baton Rouge, who died on Friday,5
November 4, 2011, at the age of fifty-six; and6
WHEREAS, Kerry Triche had a long and remarkable career during which he7
consistently demonstrated his intense determination to fully use every opportunity to8
improve the welfare of the citizens of the state of Louisiana in an honorable and dedicated9
manner; and10
WHEREAS, Mr. Triche graduated from the Louisiana State University Paul M.11
Hebert Law Center in 1980, and from that year until his death, he was an integral member12
of the central research staff of the Louisiana State Law Institute; beginning in 2000, he13
served with great effectiveness and distinction as the law institute's coordinator of research;14
and15
WHEREAS, Mr. Triche had extensive involvement with every legal subject,16
particularly Civil Code revisions, the Code of Evidence, products liability, the Private Works17
Act, the Uniform Commercial Code, and all aspects of family law; and18
WHEREAS, Mr. Triche was the author of the Handbook on Louisiana Family Law19
and the co-author of the Handbook on Louisiana Evidence Law and the Louisiana Children's20

WHEREAS, Mr. Triche was a familiar presence in the state capitol for many years,1
lending his expertise before legislative committees who benefitted greatly from the2
opportunity to hear his keen and insightful testimony on many issues; and3
WHEREAS, Mr. Triche was a member of the National Conference of Commissioners4
on Uniform State Laws; and5
WHEREAS, Mr. Triche was a loyal fan of Louisiana State University sports,6
particularly baseball and football, and was known as a tailgater extraordinaire; and7
WHEREAS, throughout his life, including in his lengthy battle with lymphoma, Mr.8
Triche showed himself to be a man of uncommon strength and dignity, and he was widely9
respected and admired and deeply loved by his family, his colleagues, and his friends; and10
WHEREAS, in the fall of 2011, prior to his death, a Louisiana House of11
Representatives interim Expression of Commendation was presented to Mr. Triche and12
officially recognized and paid tribute to him for his singular contributions; and13
WHEREAS, Mr. Triche is survived by Claudia Decker, his wife of thirty years; his14
sons, Joseph and Andre Triche; his daughter Gillian Triche and her partner Julia Snedigar;15
his parents, Harry and Laura Madere Triche; and his brothers, Eric and his wife Jeanne16
Triche, Owen and his wife Sharon Triche, and Michael Triche; he was preceded in death by17
his maternal grandparents, Prentiss and Viola Madere, and his paternal grandparents, Albert18
and Grace Kittrell Triche; and19
WHEREAS, Kerry Joseph Triche merits posthumous commendation for the indelible20
mark he left on his community and state and countless citizens as one of the finest, most21
respected, most admired, and most beloved legal minds and citizens in the history of the22
state of Louisiana.23
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby24
express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Kerry Joseph Triche of Baton25
Rouge, does hereby commend him posthumously for his outstanding accomplishments and26
singular contributions to the state of Louisiana, does hereby record for posterity his27
dedicated and productive service to the Louisiana State Law Institute, does hereby express28
enduring gratitude for his legal scholarship, and does hereby recognize that his legacy and29
memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved him.30 HLS 12RS-3470	ORIGINAL

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted1
to the family of Kerry Triche.2
