BY REPRESENTATIVE LORUSSO AND SENATOR APPEL
COMMENDATIONS:  Recognizes the 225
th
 anniversary of the signing of the U.S.
Constitution and the contributions of the La. Society of the Sons of the American
Revolution and La. Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commemorate the two hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of the signing of the2
Constitution of the United States and to recognize the contributions of the Louisiana3
Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Louisiana Society of the4
Daughters of the American Revolution.5
WHEREAS, the American Revolution secured the independence of the United States6
of America and made possible the vibrant system of self-government of the United States;7
and8
WHEREAS, the supporters of the American Revolution, through their vision and9
determination, enhanced the lives of countless individuals and made possible the system of10
equal justice, limited government, and the rule of law that exists in the United States; and11
WHEREAS, the people who fought in the American Revolution made great12
sacrifices for their fledgling country; and13
WHEREAS, the fifty-five delegates who attended the Constitutional Convention in14
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, two hundred twenty-five years ago and the thirty-nine delegates15
who signed the Constitution of the United States at the Constitutional Convention16
irrevocably changed the course of history; and17
WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States, a revered and living document,18
provides important rights to every citizen of the United States, secures "the Blessings of19 HLS 12RS-811	ORIGINAL

Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity", and sets the standard of democracy for the world;1
and 2
WHEREAS, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention in 1787 established the3
imperative precedent of compromise; and4
WHEREAS, the Constitution and the subsequent twenty-seven amendments to the5
Constitution outline the freedoms and the principles of representative government that are6
as strong today as they were on that momentous occasion in 1787; and7
WHEREAS, September 17, 2012, marks the two hundred twenty-fifth anniversary8
of the signing of the Constitution of the United States, which is the supreme law of the land9
and the document by which the people of the United States govern this great country; and10
WHEREAS, to venerate the immeasurable importance of the Constitution and the11
day on which the Constitution was signed, it is essential to continually educate people about12
and celebrate the principles and legacy of the Founding Fathers; and 13
WHEREAS, members of organizations such as the Louisiana Society of the Sons of14
the American Revolution and the Louisiana Society of the Daughters of the American15
Revolution play an important role in promoting patriotism, preserving the history of the16
United States, and educating the public about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.17
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby18
commemorate the two hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of the signing of the Constitution19
of the United States on September 17, 2012, and does hereby recognize the sacrifices made20
by the people who made the signing possible.21
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislature hereby commends the continuing22
contributions made by the members, volunteers, and staff of historical, educational, and23
patriotic societies, such as the Louisiana Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and24
the Louisiana Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in promoting patriotism25
and the values embodied in the Constitution of the United States.26
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted27
to the presidents of the Louisiana Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the28
