hundred dollars to homeowners for storm-proofing activities such as installing window
protection, installing hurricane straps or clips, bolting walls to foundations, strengthening
doors, anchoring propane tanks or heating fuel tanks, and elevating electrical panels, air-
conditioning units, washers and dryers, and furnace and water heaters; and

WHEREAS, the length of the three-year term will make managing compliance by
the office of community development, disaster recovery unit, difficult as well as, since the
term will span multiple hurricane seasons, the homeowner and the taxpayers will not receive
the full benefit of the program by increasing the risk of storm damage before the individual
mitigation measures can be accomplished.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
urge and request the division of administration, office of community development, disaster
recovery unit, to require individuals who receive grant awards for individual mitigation
measures accomplish those measures within one year of the award.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
executive director of the office of community development, disaster recovery unit.
