ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 183 BY REPRESENTATIVE TALBOT A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend John Curtis Christian School upon winning six state athletic championships in the 2011-2012 school year. WHEREAS, during the 2011-2012 school year, John Curtis Christian School in River Ridge won six state athletic championships: football, boys and girls basketball, softball, and indoor and outdoor track and field; and WHEREAS, the John Curtis football team's 33-3 victory over Winnfield High School in the Class 2A state championship was the culmination of an unforgettable 14-1 season; this victory marked the Patriots' twenty-fourth state football championship in the school's forty- nine year existence; and WHEREAS, the girls basketball team's 55-42 win against Iota in the Class 2A state championship marked the Lady Patriots' third state championship, and the boys' 57-48 state championship victory over Riverside was their first; this was the third ever state basketball championship sweep in Louisiana athletic history; and WHEREAS, the John Curtis softball team capped off an impeccable 32-0 season when they topped Evangel Christian 2-0 to win the Class 2A state title; this victory was the sixth state championship win for the Patriots; and WHEREAS, the Patriots claimed their third straight state title in outdoor track and field with their eighty-seven point finish in the Division 2A-1A state championship, in addition to winning the Division II indoor track and field state championship by scoring ninety-one points; and WHEREAS, John Curtis Christian School's six state athletic championships in 2011- 2012 solidifies the Patriots' place among the greatest high school athletic programs in the history of Louisiana athletics; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 183 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, the members of these teams performed at the highest level of excellence, and each of these great Patriots deserves recognition for his or her vital contributions to these victories; and WHEREAS, special measures of commendation are in order for the coaches who labor year-round to maintain and strengthen John Curtis Christian's reputation as one of the state's premier high schools; and WHEREAS, the teams' outstanding 2011-2012 seasons uphold the glorious tradition of the Patriots, and all John Curtis Christian High School alumni and fans recognize the immense pride and distinguished honor that Patriot athletics bring to the school, community, and state. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend John Curtis Christian School upon winning state championships in football, boys and girls basketball, softball, and outdoor and indoor track and field in the 2011-2012 school year and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and everyone involved with these fine athletic programs as they celebrate their exceptional seasons and prepare for continued success in the future.
