HLS 12RS-3737 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 184 BY REPRESENTATIVE KLECKLEY AND SENATORS ALARIO, JOHNS, MARTINY, AND GARY SMITH COMMENDATIONS: Commends Andy Dreher upon his retirement from Entergy A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To commend Murphy "Andy" Dreher upon his retirement as the vice president of2 governmental affairs for Entergy Louisiana and Entergy Gulf States Louisiana.3 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Murphy "Andy" Dreher upon his4 retirement from Entergy Corporation, where he has served with great distinction for more5 than three decades; and6 WHEREAS, Andy Dreher, known as "the Czar of Starhill" and "the Man with the7 Golden Spoon", widely beloved for his gentle persuasion, jovial demeanor, warm spirit, and8 contagious laugh, is retiring after thirty-two and one-half years of service at Gulf States9 Utilities and Entergy Corporation; and10 WHEREAS, Mr. Dreher serves with great effectiveness as the vice president of11 governmental affairs for Entergy Louisiana and Entergy Gulf States Louisiana; and12 WHEREAS, based in Baton Rouge, Mr. Dreher is responsible for the legislative and13 political affairs activities of the company and has been lobbying at the Louisiana State14 Capitol more than thirty years; and15 WHEREAS, Mr. Dreher's term of service has spanned the administrations of six16 Louisiana governors and multiple Senate presidents and House speakers, and his vast17 knowledge, experience, and dealings at the political level have included issues related to18 taxes, workers compensation, labor and tort reform, utility regulation issues, and19 securitization; and20 HLS 12RS-3737 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 184 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, after receiving a bachelor of science degree in history and political1 science from Northwestern State University, as well as a master's degree in psychology and2 counseling, Mr. Dreher began his utility career in 1979 in public affairs at the River Bend3 Nuclear Plant in St. Francisville, Louisiana; and4 WHEREAS, while at River Bend, Mr. Dreher was responsible for public relations,5 community affairs, media inquiries, and communications with elected officials regarding6 legislation dealing with the nuclear industry; and7 WHEREAS, Mr. Dreher credits his mentor, Earl Broussard, with teaching him how8 to lobby as well as how to cook an incredible repertoire of Louisiana delights; legislators and9 staff have had the pleasure of enjoying Mr. Dreher's crawfish etouffee, crawfish monica, and10 jambalaya, and over the years, has also taken his pots and pans on the road, cooking and11 visiting with legislators and their constituents in their hometowns, a treat for all who shared12 the experience; and13 WHEREAS, Mr. Dreher has long been very active in numerous professional,14 charitable, and civic organizations, including serving as president of the Audubon Lion's15 Club, the Greater St. Francisville Chamber of Commerce, and the Utilities State Government16 Organization (USGO), and as a member of the board of directors for the Capitol Area United17 Way; he also served his community for eight years as a member of the West Feliciana Parish18 School Board, giving up a portion of his compensation to set up the "Lorena D. Dreher19 Memorial Scholarship for Education Excellence", named after his grandmother; and20 WHEREAS, Mr. Dreher currently serves on the board of directors of the Public21 Affairs Research Council of Louisiana (PAR), the Louisiana Association of Business and22 Industry (LABI), and USGO and as the fearless leader of the "Utility Power Team", a23 compilation of Louisiana utility lobbyists who operate at the capitol; and24 WHEREAS, Mr. Dreher is a history enthusiast and enjoys reading, fishing, cooking,25 and traveling; in his retirement, he may be found in Cocodrie, better known as "Camp26 Coco", with a rod and reel in hand, or with his grandchildren, enjoying watching them grow;27 he may also be found at the beach, enjoying a good book, boarding a plane to a28 yet-to-be-discovered destination, or at home in Star Hill, riding his new orange "Kubota"29 tractor into the sunset to stir up more than just an etouffee; and30 HLS 12RS-3737 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 184 Page 3 of 3 WHEREAS, Mr. Dreher is highly regarded for earning the trust and admiration of1 the state's lawmakers and will forever be respected for his integrity by all who walk the halls2 of the capitol; and3 WHEREAS, Mr. Dreher's charming and lovely wife of thirty-eight years, Nancy, has4 been at his side as he has worked tirelessly and with steadfast commitment throughout his5 entire career, and together they are the proud parents of Drew, Daniel, Caroline, and Maddie6 and the grandparents of Murphy, Eliza, and Annie Wells, as well as their first grandson,7 Parker, expected for arrival in July of 2012; and8 WHEREAS, Mr. Dreher brings a deep sense of pride and honor to his family, his9 colleagues at Entergy Corporation, and all of the friends he has made at the capitol10 throughout the course of his highly productive career, and, as he prepares to begin the next11 exciting chapter of his life, he merits a special measure of commendation for his many12 outstanding accomplishments.13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby14 commend Andy Dreher upon his retirement from Entergy Corporation after thirty-two and15 one-half years of dedicated and formative service, does hereby recognize and record for16 posterity his myriad achievements, does hereby express sincere appreciation for his singular17 contributions to the legislative process as a truly exceptional lobbyist, and does hereby18 extend to him and his family every good wish for continued success and happiness in their19 future endeavors.20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted21 to Andy Dreher.22 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
