HLS 12RS-5197 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 191 BY REPRESENTATIVE JAY MORRIS COMMENDATIONS: Commends LSU baseball player Raph Rhymes of Monroe upon his selection as the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To commend LSU baseball player Raph Rhymes of Monroe upon his selection as the2 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year.3 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and congratulate LSU baseball player4 Raph Rhymes, who graduated from Neville High School in Monroe, upon being named5 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year on Tuesday, May 29, 2012; and6 WHEREAS, throughout the 2012 regular season, Mr. Rhymes led the nation in7 hitting, maintaining an astounding .459 batting average, seventy points higher than the next8 most consistent Southeastern Conference hitter; and9 WHEREAS, in addition to having the highest batting average in the Southeastern10 Conference, Mr. Rhymes had ninety-two hits, an on-base percentage of .522, and fifty runs11 batted in, the third most in his conference; and12 WHEREAS, during the 2012 season, Mr. Rhymes held a thirty-game streak of13 reaching base safely, a sixteen-game hitting streak, and thirty-one multi-hit games; and14 WHEREAS, Raph Rhymes joins Todd Walker, Russ Johnson, Eddy Furniss, Aaron15 Hill, and Jon Zeringue as the sixth LSU player to be named Southeastern Conference Player16 of the Year; and 17 WHEREAS, Raph Rhymes and fellow first team All-SEC teammate, Kevin18 Gausman, now lead the Tigers into the NCAA tournament regional against University of19 Louisiana at Monroe on Friday, June 1, 2012. 20 HLS 12RS-5197 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 191 Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the1 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend LSU baseball player Raph Rhymes upon2 being named Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, does hereby recognize and record3 for posterity his remarkable accomplishments in the 2012 LSU baseball season, does hereby4 express the enduring gratitude of the members for the tremendous pride and honor he has5 brought to the city of Monroe, LSU, and the state of Louisiana, and does hereby extend to6 him best wishes for continued success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted8 to Raph Rhymes.9 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
