HLS 12RS-1072 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 32 BY REPRESENTATIVE LEGER COMMENDATIONS: Commends William Joyce, Brandon Oldenburg, and Moonbot Studios in Shreveport upon winning the Best Animated Short Film Oscar for The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To commend William Joyce, Brandon Oldenburg, and Moonbot Studios in Shreveport upon2 winning the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film for The Fantastic Flying Books of3 Mr. Morris Lessmore at the Eighty-Fourth Annual Academy Awards.4 WHEREAS, on Sunday, February 26, 2012, the hearts and minds of the citizens of5 the state of Louisiana were in Hollywood, California, at the Academy Awards, where the6 brilliant creative team from Shreveport's Moonbot Studios won the Oscar in the category of7 Best Animated Short Film for The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore; and8 WHEREAS, directed by William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg, The Fantastic9 Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is the first released animated project of Shreveport's10 Moonbot Studios, which was founded in 2010; and11 WHEREAS, this extraordinary film has captured the hearts and imaginations of all12 who have experienced the magical story of Mr. Morris Lessmore and the happiness he finds13 for himself and shares with others through his fantastic flying books; and14 WHEREAS, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is an indelible part15 of an extraordinary era in the history of film in Louisiana, and it will forever occupy a16 special place in the memories of all whose lives it has touched; and17 WHEREAS, the singular talents and contributions of every member of the Moonbot18 team led to the creation of this animated masterpiece; and19 HLS 12RS-1072 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 32 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, in addition to being gifted filmmakers, the creative forces at Moonbot1 Studios work across various media platforms, and they have created a popular app in2 association with The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore as well as Numberlys,3 which presents a fanciful depiction of the origins of the alphabet, and Bullseye, an interactive4 music video collaboration with the Polyphonic Spree; and5 WHEREAS, the citizens of this state eagerly anticipate Moonbot's future projects,6 which, like The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, will surely delight and7 amaze audiences in Louisiana and beyond; and 8 WHEREAS, William Joyce, Brandon Oldenburg, and all at Moonbot Studios merit9 a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for their victory at the Oscars, for the joy10 and wonder they spread in the world with their art, and for the tremendous pride and honor11 they bring to the Shreveport community and the state of Louisiana.12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby13 commend William Joyce, Brandon Oldenburg, and Moonbot Studios in Shreveport upon14 winning the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film for The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr.15 Morris Lessmore at the Eighty-Fourth Annual Academy Awards, does hereby recognize and16 record for posterity this memorable and historic accomplishment, and does hereby extend17 to the entire Moonbot family best wishes for continued success and happiness in all of their18 future endeavors.19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted20 to William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg.21 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
