Silver for his outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions to the city of Alexandria A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To commend Harry B. Silver for his outstanding accomplishments and dedicated service to2 the city of Alexandria and the state of Louisiana.3 WHEREAS, it is with great pride and enthusiasm that the Legislature of Louisiana4 recognizes the lifetime of accomplishments of one of Louisiana's most respected and5 admired sons; and6 WHEREAS, born January 19, 1922, Harry B. Silver, at the age of ninety, is the oldest7 person ever to serve as an elected official in the city of Alexandria and serves with great8 distinction as the president of the Alexandria City Council; and9 WHEREAS, Mr. Silver is the husband of his beloved Marilyn Levy Silver and is a10 devoted father to his four children, Bill, Kathy, Ted, and Amy, and grandfather to his three11 grandchildren, Michael, Emily, and Kate; and12 WHEREAS, Mr. Silver earned his law degree from Rutgers University in 1947; and13 WHEREAS, for more than fifty years, Mr. Silver has been active in the community14 and engaged in retail sales; he serves as chairman of Weiss and Goldring, one of15 Alexandria's leading department stores; and16 WHEREAS, Mr. Silver has been involved in civic affairs throughout his career,17 having served as chairman of the board or president for more than a dozen vital community18 service organizations; and19 WHEREAS, Mr. Silver merits a special measure of commendation for his20 unwavering dedication as the president of the Alexandria City Council and for the21 HLS 12RS-1350 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 70 Page 2 of 2 tremendous honor and pride he brings to his family, friends, and community, the city of1 Alexandria, and the state of Louisiana.2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby3 commend Harry B. Silver of Alexandria, does hereby recognize and record for posterity the4 extraordinary life he has lived in the nine decades since his birth, does hereby extend5 enduring gratitude for his outstanding accomplishments and vital contributions to his fellow6 citizens, and does hereby wish him continued happiness in the years to come.7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted8 to Harry B.
