CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of William "Bill" Lovejoy
Henning, Sr., of Sulphur
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of William "Bill" Lovejoy2
Henning, Sr., of Sulphur.3
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4
House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of5
William "Bill" Lovejoy Henning, Sr., of Sulphur on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the age6
of eighty-nine; and7
WHEREAS, Mr. Henning was born on July 25, 1922, in Sulphur where he spent his8
childhood; and9
WHEREAS, Mr. Henning graduated from Sulphur High School in 1940 and attended10
McNeese College; and11
WHEREAS, during World War II, Mr. Henning served his country with valor and12
fortitude with the Army Air Corps in Europe from 1942 until 1946; and13
WHEREAS, in 1949, Mr. Henning obtained his juris doctorate from Louisiana State14
University, where he was a member of the Moot Court Advisory Board and the legal15
fraternity, Phi Delta Phi; and16
WHEREAS, on July 23, 1949, Bill Henning married Lena Argin Baber, with whom17
he shared the rest of his life; and18
WHEREAS, after law school, Mr. Henning returned to Sulphur and established his19
law practice, which continued for fifteen years; and20 HLS 12RS-2233	ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, after his father passed away in 1952, Bill and his brother, J.T. Henning,1
operated Cameron Telephone Company, a small independent telephone company that was2
established in 1928 and served Cameron Parish and parts of Calcasieu Parish; and   3
WHEREAS, as chief executive officer of Cameron Communications, Mr. Henning4
developed the company into a large and successful telecommunications group that provided5
the latest and most modern technology available, including personal communication6
services, cellular, wireless communications, Internet, cable television, and other7
communication services; and8
WHEREAS, at the time of his death, Mr. Henning was working on developing a9
multistate wireless broadband Internet company; and10
WHEREAS, Mr. Henning not only channeled his productive energy into his family's11
business, he shared his talents with other entities as officer and director in numerous related12
telecommunications companies, including Cameron Telephone Company, Cameron13
Telephone Company-Texas, Elizabeth Telephone Company, LBH, L.L.C., Mercury Long14
Distance, Mercury Cellular Telephone Company, and US Unwired; and 15
WHEREAS, Mr. Henning was active in many professional associations, including16
as a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, a member and former president of the17
Louisiana Telephone Association, former director of the United States Telephone18
Association, former director of the National Rural Telecom Association, former director of19
Calcasieu Marine National Bank, charter member and former president of the Calcasieu20
Parish Industrial Board, charter member and vice president of the Chennault Industrial21
Airport Authority, and member and former officer of the West Calcasieu Port, Harbor and22
Terminal District; and 23
WHEREAS, Mr. Henning was a member of Henning Memorial United Methodist24
Church, a church named in honor of his grandfather, where he served as the former chairman25
of the Official Board, the former President of the Board of Trustees, a Sunday School26
teacher, member of the Centenary Church Council, a member of the Committee on27
Interjurisdictional Relations, and twice as a delegate to the Louisiana United Methodist28

WHEREAS, during his life, Mr. Henning enjoyed helping people in need, walking,1
traveling, photography, and tennis, the latter of which inspired him to cofound the Half Fast2
Tennis Club in Sulphur; and3
WHEREAS, Mr. Henning enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren and telling them4
stories, and he treated his nephews and nieces like they were his own children and loved5
them very much; and6
WHEREAS, Mr. Henning is survived by his loving wife of more than sixty-two7
years, Lena Argin Baber; his three sons, William "Dub" L. Henning, Jr., and wife, Susan,8
John A. Henning, Sr., and wife, Ginny, and Thomas G. Henning and wife, Shirley; and9
eleven grandchildren; and10
WHEREAS, with the death of Mr. Henning, Louisiana has lost one of her finest11
citizens, a gentleman of many gifts and talents who has left an indelible mark on the lives12
of those he touched; and13
WHEREAS, although the death of Bill Henning has left a tremendous void in his14
community, his memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who loved him and15
all who had the pleasure of knowing him.16
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby17
express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of William "Bill" Lovejoy18
Henning, Sr., of Sulphur, does hereby record for posterity his outstanding accomplishments19
and singular contributions, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous20
pride and honor that this wonderful man will forever bring to his family, friends, community,21
state, and nation.22
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted23
to the family of William "Bill" Lovejoy Henning, Sr.24
