ENROLLED Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 75 BY REPRESENTATIVE DANAHAY A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of William "Bill" Lovejoy Henning, Sr., of Sulphur. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of William "Bill" Lovejoy Henning, Sr., of Sulphur on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the age of eighty-nine; and WHEREAS, Mr. Henning was born on July 25, 1922, in Sulphur where he spent his childhood; and WHEREAS, Mr. Henning graduated from Sulphur High School in 1940 and attended McNeese College; and WHEREAS, during World War II, Mr. Henning served his country with valor and fortitude with the Army Air Corps in Europe from 1942 until 1946; and WHEREAS, in 1949, Mr. Henning obtained his juris doctorate from Louisiana State University, where he was a member of the Moot Court Advisory Board and the legal fraternity, Phi Delta Phi; and WHEREAS, on July 23, 1949, Bill Henning married Lena Argin Baber, with whom he shared the rest of his life; and WHEREAS, after law school, Mr. Henning returned to Sulphur and established his law practice, which continued for fifteen years; and WHEREAS, after his father passed away in 1952, Bill and his brother, J.T. Henning, operated Cameron Telephone Company, a small independent telephone company that was established in 1928 and served Cameron Parish and parts of Calcasieu Parish; and WHEREAS, as chief executive officer of Cameron Communications, Mr. Henning developed the company into a large and successful telecommunications group that provided ENROLLEDHCR NO. 75 Page 2 of 3 the latest and most modern technology available, including personal communication services, cellular, wireless communications, Internet, cable television, and other communication services; and WHEREAS, at the time of his death, Mr. Henning was working on developing a multistate wireless broadband Internet company; and WHEREAS, Mr. Henning not only channeled his productive energy into his family's business, he shared his talents with other entities as officer and director in numerous related telecommunications companies, including Cameron Telephone Company, Cameron Telephone Company-Texa s, Elizabeth Telephone Company, LBH, L.L.C., Mercury Long Distance, Mercury Cellular Telephone Company, and US Unwired; and WHEREAS, Mr. Henning was active in many professional associations, including as a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, a member and former president of the Louisiana Telephone Association, former director of the United States Telephone Association, former director of the National Rural Telecom Association, former director of Calcasieu Marine National Bank, charter member and former president of the Calcasieu Parish Industrial Board, charter member and vice president of the Chennault Industrial Airport Authority, and member and former officer of the West Calcasieu Port, Harbor and Terminal District; and WHEREAS, Mr. Henning was a member of Henning Memorial United Methodist Church, a church named in honor of his grandfather, where he served as the former chairman of the Official Board, the former President of the Board of Trustees, a Sunday School teacher, member of the Centenary Church Council, a member of the Committee on Interjurisdictional Relations, and twice as a delegate to the Louisiana United Methodist Conference; and WHEREAS, during his life, Mr. Henning enjoyed helping people in need, walking, traveling, photography, and tennis, the latter of which inspired him to cofound the Half Fast Tennis Club in Sulphur; and WHEREAS, Mr. Henning enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren and telling them stories, and he treated his nephews and nieces like they were his own children and loved them very much; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 75 Page 3 of 3 WHEREAS, Mr. Henning is survived by his loving wife of more than sixty-two years, Lena Argin Baber; his three sons, William "Dub" L. Henning, Jr., and wife, Susan, John A. Henning, Sr., and wife, Ginny, and Thomas G. Henning and wife, Shirley; and eleven grandchildren; and WHEREAS, with the death of Mr. Henning, Louisiana has lost one of her finest citizens, a gentleman of many gifts and talents who has left an indelible mark on the lives of those he touched; and WHEREAS, although the death of Bill Henning has left a tremendous void in his community, his memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who loved him and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of William "Bill" Lovejoy Henning, Sr., of Sulphur, does hereby record for posterity his outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that this wonderful man will forever bring to his family, friends, community, state, and nation.
