HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 121

SCHOOLS/ST SUPERINTDT: Requests the State Board of Elementary and Secondary
Education to require the state superintendent of education to expand his statewide
outreach initiative to all parishes
A RESOLUTION1
To urge and request the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to require the2
state superintendent of education to expand his statewide outreach initiative,3
Louisiana Believes, to all parishes in the state.4
WHEREAS, the state superintendent of education traveled the state holding events5
in sixteen cities throughout Louisiana from April 19, 2012, through May 17, 2012, to meet6
with educators and others relative to education reform; and7
WHEREAS, this statewide outreach initiative, known as Louisiana Believes, was8
developed by the state superintendent to involve educators in the formulation of a9
comprehensive plan to ensure that Louisiana's education reforms are implemented to achieve10
one central objective – "ensuring all students, at every grade level, are on track to attain a11
college degree or succeed in a professional career"; and12
WHEREAS, although meetings were held in several parishes over a period of several13
weeks, there were no meetings held in many parishes of the state; and14
WHEREAS, these meetings should continue throughout the summer months in order15
to reach all areas of the state and to involve educators in those areas in this important16
initiative in order to achieve the objective as stated by the state superintendent and to provide17
for a truly comprehensive effort and plan as intended. 18
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the19
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the State Board of Elementary and20 HLS 12RS-4620 ORIGINAL

Secondary Education to require the state superintendent of education to expand his statewide1
outreach initiative, Louisiana Believes, to all parishes in the state.2
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the3
president of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and the state4
superintendent of education.5
