HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 13
BY REPRESENTATIVE STUART BISHOP
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the St. Thomas More High School girls basketball team
of Lafayette upon winning the state championship
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the St. Thomas More High School girls basketball team of Lafayette upon2
winning the Class 4A state championship.3
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the St. Thomas More High School girls4
basketball team upon the completion of a sensational 2011-2012 season and to congratulate5
the players and coaches on winning the Class 4A state basketball championship; and6
WHEREAS, the St. Thomas More Lady Cougars finished the season with an7
exceptional overall record of 34-2; and8
WHEREAS, the St. Thomas More Cougars defeated the Salmen Spartans by a score9
of 56-39 at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association championship at the Thomas10
Assembly Center in Ruston; and11
WHEREAS, the Cougars' 2012 win over Salmen marks their second consecutive12
state championship; and13
WHEREAS, the members of the St. Thomas More High School girls basketball team14
performed at the highest levels of excellence throughout the season, and each of these15
intrepid Cougars deserves recognition for her vital contributions to the winning effort; and16
WHEREAS, the victorious St. Thomas More High School girls basketball team17
consists of Kourtney Blackwell, Lauren Olivier, Kia Wilridge, Paije Hall, Jodi Quinn,18
Payton Walker, Allison Derise, Courtney Chain, and Keke Veal; and 19 HLS 12RS-1728	ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, the team's dedicated and skilled managers, Brittany Hanks, Margaret1
Carey, and Alece Courville, also made important contributions to this unforgettable season;2
and3
WHEREAS, coaches Ashley Brodhead-Richard, Deacon Jones, and Kristopher Knox4
have instilled in their players the kind of leadership and motivational skills needed to5
succeed both on and off the court; and6
WHEREAS, through its display of good sportsmanship and dedication to excellence,7
the St. Thomas More High School girls basketball team has brought a tremendous sense of8
honor and pride to its school and surrounding community.9
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the10
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the members of the St. Thomas More High11
School girls basketball team of Lafayette for winning the Class 4A state basketball12
championship, does hereby express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the St. Thomas13
More Lady Cougars in recognition of their outstanding athletic abilities and their thrilling14
season, and does hereby extend to the team and its coaches best wishes for success in the15
future.16
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted17
to Ashley Brodhead-Richard, head coach of the St. Thomas More High School girls18
basketball team.19
