HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 161
BY REPRESENTATIVE PYLANT
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Robert Owen White of Winnsboro for his outstanding
accomplishments
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Robert Owen White of Winnsboro for his outstanding accomplishments.2
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Robert Owen White of Winnsboro for3
being an exemplary citizen of the great state of Louisiana; and4
WHEREAS, Robert Owen White was born on August 5, 1922, in a family that grew5
to have eleven members; he was born south of Jonesville, Louisiana, in the Mayna6
community between Jonesville and Larto Lake, and was raised in the country, where his7
family subsisted off their farm; and8
WHEREAS, Mr. White graduated from Block High School in Jonesville before9
beginning to work at Babin Motors and then being drafted in 1941 and serving with valor10
in General Patton's Army in Europe until the end of World War II in 1945; and11
WHEREAS, upon his return to Jonesville, Mr. White resumed working at Babin12
Motors in the parts department and in several other capacities before becoming general13
manager of the dealership; and14
WHEREAS, in 1956, Mr. White moved to Winnsboro as the franchised dealer and15
minority owner of the new Ford dealership, Jerry Babin Ford; over the years, the dealership16
changed to White & Babin Ford and finally to White Ford Lincoln, LLC, in 1987, as Mr.17
White became the sole owner of the business; and18
WHEREAS, since 1957, Mr. White has been an active participant in the Winnsboro19
community through his sponsorship of Dixie Youth Baseball and his productive and20
dedicated involvement with the Twin Oaks Country Club, the Princess Theatre, the Veterans21 HLS 12RS-5229	ORIGINAL

of Foreign Wars, where he is a board member, the Families in Need Program, and other1
community organizations; and2
WHEREAS, Mr. White also has been active in the Louisiana Automobile Dealers3
Association and was named Dealer of the Year in the Fifth District in 1978; and4
WHEREAS, in 1977, Mr. White became a member of the Board of Franklin State5
Bank, where he serves today as chairman of the board; and6
WHEREAS, Mr. White has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnsboro7
since 1956, was ordained a Deacon in 1967, and has served as chairman of Deacons; and8
WHEREAS, nowadays, Mr. White enjoys working with his new hunting dog early9
in the morning, working in his garden, his yard, the church yard, or someone else's yard,10
playing golf everyday, being a devoted, husband, father, and friend, and still keeping an eye11
on the business he started; and12
WHEREAS, the members of the Louisiana House of Representatives and all the13
citizens of Louisiana take great pride in and recognize the benefits bestowed upon them by14
sharing a state with honorable, hardworking, and kind people like Mr. White.15
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the16
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Robert Owen White of Winnsboro, does17
hereby record for posterity his outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions, and18
does hereby wish him happiness and success in all of his future endeavors.19
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted20
to Robert Owen White.21
